Also known in Thailand as Piyamaharaj Day

This day is to commemorate King Rama V, King Chulalongkorn.

It was on this day that King Chulalongkorn passed away.  King Chulalongkorn is considered to be one of Thailands greatest and important kings and is remembered most for abolishing slavery and widespread reforms that included building railways, forming government ministries and establishing postal and telegraph services.

King Chulalongkorn was born on September 20th, 1853 and ascended the throne in 1868.

He passed away on October 23rd,  1910

Thai people believe that paying respect to King Chulalongkorn will bring them good luck and fortune, and display his picture in their houses and businesses for this reason.
