Wonders never cease! i was down in the dumps due to killing half of my perfectly healthy grafted tress due to applying fertilizer according ( I thought ) as was supposed to do, i.e. 3 months after planting. Oh well, now a confirmed organic dude.
Anyway, yesterday found 2 fruit on a 4 year old planted from seed tree. Life is good again!!

Stoneman,

I'm green with envy. My wife did manage to get some (8) grafted trees from Pak Chong so I hope to duplicate your success.

Mike...

That is great...Our first year we had 11 avocados...This year looks like a good harvest...Have not had any fruit drop and the wind and storms that we have had have not effected the trees...Haven't taken any pictures since the ones I posted here several months ago...Will try to remember my camera and get some new pictures next week...

The avocado pollination thread was fantastic and finally spelled it all out for me. Excellent for a 90 year old report. Do you know what "Hass" is, A or B? . Ever see any "fuertes" out this way? Great for the home with wonderful flavor but not marketable. Thanks much

If you are still interested, about three weeks ago I picked up some “Fuerte" trees at the Pak Chong research station.

Best

Soidog...

I bought 8 Fuertes in Pak Chong last week...First time I have seen them...Also bought some Kanoes, Petersens and Valentine...Trying to get a mixture...I do not know whether Valentine is an A or B and no one seems to know...So will plant in the middle of everything...

My Booth 7's are ripe and we started picking last week Attached File  Avocado_2.jpg ( 49.99K ) Number of downloads: 7

Petersens seem to be late this year...Should be ready now, but it looks like another month...Also not a great year for the few Hass trees...Every year, I always think that Next Year will be good for the Hass...

But I did get 130 Australian Hass trees in Pak Chong, so I hope they will do good...Mixing them with Booth 7s and Bucaneers..

Guys!

Just stumbled on to this thread!! I'm from San Diego and Avos are a way of life!

But I hear no mention of Bacons! Anyone have any info? Love Hass and Fuertes, guacamole here I come!

Where exactly is the Pak Chong place located? Are they English savvy there?

Feel free to PM!

According to the PakChong Research station guys, Bacon's did not do well here...There are some Fuertes, but the main ones seem to be Booth 7 and the Australian Hass...

There are several nurseries along the Highway #2 that stock avocado plants....I have a phone number for one of them if you are interested...only Thai spoken...

The research station also has avocado trees, but you must order them 1 year in advance...They will graft from their orchard and you pick up about 3 months after grafting..A friend of mine that also grows avocados and I went to Pak Chong 2 weeks ago and picked up about 175 trees, that we had ordered last year..We tried to increase our order and they did not have the trees to fill the additional needs...maybe next year...

Went up to the farm today and picked 75 kg from one 4 year old Booth 7 tree...

There is a University of Hawaii type of avocado that is perfect [to my taste] called the Sharwell and being from Hawaii, it was developed for the tropics. Good producer, excellent fruit, big fruit, small seed, rich taste. I have considered asking friends to bring over some slips for grafting, but that sounds kind of a gamble even if timing for grafting and speedy transit could be arranged.

Have there been any sightings of this wonderful University of Hawaii Sharwell avocado???
