A Briton is accused of running a sex resort in Thailand

A Briton who set up a swingers club in rural Thailand faces jail for promoting sex tourism.
Anthony Craig is under investigation for charging guests £100 a night for sex with unlimited partners, including girls aged 18 to 25 and transsexual 'ladyboys'.
The 57-year-old says on his website that all his sex workers are anxious to meet foreigners and 'sh*g like rabbits'.
Guests are picked up discreetly from Udon Thani airport and taken to Resort Caroline in the remote Nong Saeng district, five miles from the nearest village.
Mr Craig, who with Thai wife Lampan, 31, is on £4,600 bail, says in his promotional literature: 'I have helped village girls find fun and rich western boyfriends and husbands.
'My hedonistic business is aimed at soft-play couples and shy single men. It started off as a nudist resort and my guests sort of changed things. My ethos is live and let live.'
The former builder, from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, adds that he only allows people over 18 to take part in the orgies and he never joins in.
'I make more friends than enemies but my enemies are the unseen bigots that condemn my way of life because of their myopic outlook,' he says.
About 6,000 swingers, mainly from Britain, are thought to have visited the resort since it opened four years ago. Its gatehouse is manned by Mr Craig's Thai mother-in-law.
Police chief Teerasak Krinponsa said: 'These swingers and this resort are giving Thailand a bad name.'

AND FROM THE DAILY MAIL

'British swingers giving Thailand a bad name'

Last updated at 17:22pm on 15th March 2007

A former Aylesbury builder who established a sex resort in the impoverished Thai province of Udon Thani has been bailed on sex tourism charges after a Thai Police General said that British swingers were giving Thailand a bad name.

Anthony Craig, 57, who set up Resort Caroline in the remote district of Nong Saen, five miles from the nearest village, had claimed he was merely performing a social service for the local girls and visiting British couples.

"I've been a voluntary social worker most of my life," said Craig, who denied taking part in any orgies himself.

Some 6,000 swingers, mainly from Briton are said to have visited the resort since it opened 4 years ago, police said.

Craig had his own website and charged guests £100 a night about four times the rate of most hotels in the province, but the price included free sex with unlimited partners.

Guests were picked up discreetly from flights at Udon Thani airport. The nature of the resort was a well-guarded local secret, but widely known on the internet.

But included in the package were young girls aged 18 to 25 and even ladyboys, all of whom were said to be anxious to meet with foreigners and "sh*g like rabbits," said Craig.

Both Craig and his Thai wife Lampan, aged 31, were charged with sex tourism. They were both bailed in the sum of 300,000 Thai baht (£4,600).

Provincial Police chief General Teerasak Krinponsa said: "This was not good. These swingers and this resort are giving Thailand a bad name. This sort of thing should not happen here".

When police raided the resort they found five girls aged between 21 and 15 and a 17-yr old lady boy.

The resort was in a remote area and surrounded by a high wall. Craig's Thai mother-in-law manned the gatehouse. Visitors would pass through the main gate, and 100 yards later go through a door to the inner sanctum.

The General conceded that the resort was quite beautiful and included a swimming pool and dolphin mosaics.

In his mission statement Craig claims: "Here in remotest Isan (north east Thailand) I have taught in schools and fed the poor sick and aged. I have made hundreds of friends and helped village girls find fun and rich western boyfriends and husbands.

"My hedonistic business is aimed at soft play couples and shy single men. I started off as a nudist resort and my guests sort of changed things. My ethos is live and let live.

"I make more friends than enemies, but my enemies are the unseen bigots that condemn my way of life because of their myopic outlook.

"No-one comes into my world unless they want to and then only if they are over 18. Nobody does anything here, unless it's what they want. I never join in with the parties because I am happily married and not in need of more fun."

While Thailand is infamous for its sex industry, it does not officially exist. Bars and clubs in Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya, which offer both men and women for sex, are not recognised by police as sex venues, provided they pay their monthly stipends to police.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif) Maybe the good General Policeman has never been to Bangkok or Pattaya and Phuket...?
Or didn't he 'receive' enough? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Tax, I wonder: was this story published by 'sensational' British journalists/newspapers who visited this club undercover and brought it to the attention of the police or did the police 'find out' themselves? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)
I mean, whatever people (in this case 'swingers') wish to do in their sexual lifes is up to themselves, isn't it?

It's another story if -Thai- minors were brought into this swinging scene but I'm not sure if the minors in the article were indeed participating in the 'swinging scene' or just working there...? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Well, whatever the cause of this 'news', the phrase: 'British swingers giving Thailand a bad name' will certainly rise excitement amongst British swingers who didn't know....yet... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

link to thai report

i think it was first reported in the thai press, discussed on local thai and farang web boards , then picked up by the uk press.

its a story that appeals on many levels , the male fantasy of many willing sex partners readily available , the "how the mighty have fallen" jeering now that this man has been arrested , the relief that we feel when we see that his wife is not some hot looking porn star type but just an ordinary girl and we all hope that he is probably not getting his leg over more than we are , and the hypocrisy of the police comments.

its a story that the curtain twitching , jealousy riddled , morally superior daily mail readers can harrumph about over breakfast , and that cynical thai visa types can dissect at their leisure.

personally i feel sorry for the guy , hes running a private hotel for those who enjoy their sexuality , and if he is not involved in prostitution i dont see what he has done wrong.

but the local plod dont see it like that , and so he will in all probability have to close down or change the nature of his operation.

Hypocrisy is the right word, especially also in Thailand.

The other night I watched a show on television with Hugh Hefner, together with his three girlfriends (before he had 7... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif) ); the amazing thing was that the audience was for 95% younger -well dressed and sophisticated looking- women who applauded and cheered like crazy once he appeared on stage. Why would that be ? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

At the same time 'Playboy' magazine is for sale -wrapped in the USA- and a lot of people speak 'shame' about the magazine.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Hypocricy, it's all over the world, but this time the Generals' words: "British swingers giving Thailand a bad name" is laughable and he doesn't realize it gives Thailands' sexual tourism a boost; this time for swingers.

i guess he's acting on orders from above and just doing his job , his mistake (the brit) was to advertise on internet swinger sites and i suppose the international net porn police pick up on those things and advise their thai counterparts.

interesting comments on the thai web board , i havent fully read them yet , that could take some time , but glancing through they talk about the crisis of the complete breakdown of morals in this country , the worship of money , and the flooding of the area with falangs as feeding the frenzy of greed exhibited by young thais drawn to the supposed wealth of the falang.
