Has anyone recently renewed a British 48-page passport at the Bangkok British Embassy?
I am planning renewing mine on my next visit but will only have 12 working days tops between Thailand entry and exit. Has anyone managed to get a recent UK passport replacement within a working week or 10 days? Many thanks, |

Last time I had to do it it took a week, but that was a while back. You should contact the embassy for the most reliable information.

Thanks guys for the posts. I had already checked them out and noted the '10 days' quoted.
What I am seeking is any 'real' recent renewal experience. For example, my passport renewal in the UK was sent to Glasgow since it was the nearest office to home. Their website states at least 2 weeks. Shortly afterwards there was a news item saying that delays at the Glasgow office could be expected due to an increase in applications. Thereafter, I find my renewal is now being processed in Peterborough some 4 weeks after sending it off. What is posted on an official website may not reflect the current state of play so seeking 'horses mouth' type information. I would call but I am offshore Vietnam. |

Be patient. I am sure somebody will have recent info.
I just gave you what I could find since I couldn't help in any other way. Not from UK. Joe Edit: Email for consulate ConsularEnquiries.Bangkok@fco.gov.uk This post has been edited by ubonjoe: 2008-10-12 12:56:21 |

My daughter's new passport was available after a standard 10 day wait. They do have some statement in the office in Bangkok stating something life "first come first served" except for emergencies.
Be wary of holidays and other office closures though. |

Renewed mine 4 weeks ago.
Bank on 10 days, but sometimes can get a bit quicker, depends how busy they are and first come first served, also there is no fast track of a passport in BKK, if you email them ot phone them they will tell you 10 days, so dont bother contacting them. |

Well said, that was the point I was trying to get across that there was no fast track unlike in the UK where you can get it the same day if you make an appointment and pay a higher fee. Takes only 4 hours there I remember. |

I applied on the 8th October and was told that the passport will be ready for picking up on the 22nd.
Getting it posted back by EMS so will be a couple of days after that before I receive it. Also, last time I renewed my passport the girl cut off the corner and returned my old passport. This time the girl kept the old passport but gave me a photocopy of the photo page and visa page. The old passport will be returned by post with the new one. |

They'll tell you that you can come back for it about 1 week after you submit the application at the moment, if however you show flight details they can fast track it and it may only take 3 or 4 days, or less?.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Thanks for that update TopDogger, there is an unofficial fast-track option so I will dress smartly, furnish my itinerary, be obsequiously polite and see if they can do it within 5 days.
