Hi all,

I'd like to buy Fish Finder with GPS with Thailand maps (Gulf of Thailand) for a fish boat. We want go fishing daily, looking for some big stuff to 30-50 meters depth. I am absolutely novice in this area, so if you can suggest some good brands/models I'd be happy. Price should be to 600 USD.

Any suggestions welcome

Thanks

Garmin or Furuno are about the best you can get.

Thanks for suggestions, I was looking for Garmin also. Can you suggest some model ? I mean, the best should be common one - not the lowest price, but not the most expensive. The most used and spreaded.

Thanks!

Do a google search as I can't post a link here. Several models to chose from.

In the States I was running stand alone units for sounder, GPS and Radar. All were Garmin and were excellent products. With the GPS you can get Sea charts for this region. GPS was a nice portable one that could be used in my car also.

Navman is also a good product from what little I know about them.

Here in Canada I have a Hummingbird 757c that is excellent and in your price range. It has a 2 gig chip of navigational charts. I don't know if they are available in Thailand though.

hi guys,

as I know Garmin is quite popular in Thailand I decide to pick up this brand. I have few choices:
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare.do?cID=...areProduct=8055

GPSMAP® 420/420s (no maps)
GPSMAP® 430/430s (inland maps)
GPSMAP® 440/440s (coastal maps - cheapest)

So I will buy one of these.

Thanks for help.

that will cover you in regards to GPS but does not have a fish finder/depth sounder... Navman Trackfish 6500 or 6600 gives you more bang for your buck.

Mr Ulit of Ping Electric in Phuket is a supplier of Navman
076224847, 0816324550
He also has C-MAP chips

Navman is now Northstar. Just bought the Northstar 650 Explorer from Mr Ulit (his shop is on the left immediately before the security entrance to Boat Lagoon Marina). Cost was 40,000 baht, with another 3,000 for installation (very neat job, make sure you ask for a 'wet box' for the transducer, rather than having it transom mounted).

hi, thanks for reply. I call already to Mr Ulit, was thinking buy new unit. Problem is, he sell that stuff quite expensive. Anyway, are you satisfied with Northstar 650 you recently bought ? Also do you got maps ?

I am thinking order it from internet, you can find one cheap as $460US, just look at
http://www.google.com/products?q=Northstar...0&scoring=p

Only downside I see is warranty and maybe problems with maps. But those maps can be loaded after I guess.

Finally I decided to buy Lowrance, new HDS unit:

http://www.lowrance.com/en/Products/Marine...Specifications/

it is compatible with Navionics maps, so I ordered 31XG for Thailand.

Thanks to all for help!

There are SO many products to choose from, and places to buy from - perhaps you can say more about the price of this unit, where you are buying it (local shop? or internet?) and what about install?

Good for you - stepping up to research and making an informed decision.

Sorry for the delay in response, but yes, very satisfied. Versatile and easy to use. The only problem I had was with the wet box for the transducer, as the thickness of the hull on my boat (Boston Whaler) meant unable to produce a signal. Now have it mounted conventionally on the transom. Customer service from Khun Ulit is excellent.
