The connections between Garmin and the various mapping companies seem more complicated than I had realised. I see from the web that ESRI and TeleAtlas have co-operated on many projects, though I couldn't find any reference to the SE Asia map. I found a couple of posts that suggest that TeleAtlas' tie up with MapPointAsia started in November 2007 (what I thought was the source of my 2008 SE Asia map) and that ESRI v'8 was launched as a standalone map later that same month. This would suggest that any opportunity to use v.8 on the SE Asia map was either very narrow or non-existent. It would be nice to nail down definitely who made the various maps we're discussing.

Tele Atlas NV said it entered into a joint venture with MappointAsia Thailand to set up a new subsidiary to be called Tele Atlas Thailand Co Ltd.

The new business will operate independently, focusing on delivering a complete navigable digital map database of the country.

Based in Bangkok and employing more than 100 database production and collection staff, the joint venture will be immediately operational.

Tele Atlas also announced the deployment of its first mobile mapping van in Southeast Asia in downtown Singapore.

The deployment of the new vehicle is the second vehicle in Tele Atlas' Asia Pacific fleet

I suggest that you keep doing what your usernames says,observing,because from all the posts you already made on this forum there is not one correct.

First of all Ta 200810 is an old teleatlas map that is named cn singapore and malaysia NT V.4

Second, South east asia map V4 doesn't excist yet.

I downloaded City Navigator Southeast Asia NT, Item# 010-D0052-00, from the Garmin website on 1 July 2009. When the Map Info is viewed on my Nuvi 205 it shows up as "City Navigator Southeastern Asia NT v4.00, [1] SEA_NT_TA200810 v4.00". Anything else I can do for you?

Yes sir,because the item number you mention is the same as this 010-11114-00.It just has a different item number for download or memory card.If you read a bit higher up in this topic you will find out that this item number is not version 4.When you read the post from Gary you will also know Garmin answered him that the bridge is not on the map however you see the bridge,or is it the pier.So who to believe,Garmin or an interested observer?

I punch in the coordinates N13, 38.005; E100, 32.337 and up pops the Kanchanaphisek bridge, the entire bridge complete with access roads. Somebody is certainly confused, but it's not me because I have the downloaded map from Garmin, completed with bridge, and marked as v4.00 on my Nuvi 205 Map Info. Anything else I can do for you?

Garmin obviously has problems and poor customer support. They refuse to actually look at their map and provide the information I asked for. Below is my answer to their previous email;

"What I was actually trying to find out is if that bridge is on your map. I know for sure that it is on the ESRI Thailand map. Obviously I will NOT buy the Garmin map if it is inferior. May or may not be is not an acceptable answer."

Their answer to the above;

"Thank you for contacting Garmin International. The only information I

This will not show that exact bridge. I apologize, I do not have an
answer to your question. A company called Navteq makes those maps, so

basjke, I went to Garmins site and nowhere can I find a version number on the SE Asia map that is available for download. I checked my unit and it shows "City Navigator Southeastern Asia NT v3.00, [1] SEA_NT_TA200803 v3.00"

So I have to agree with InterestedObserver, if his unit is displaying as he says, then there must be a V4.00 now.

The picture gets ever more confusing. In 2007 after being widely predicted to buy out TeleAtlas, Garmin decided not to go ahead and instead signed a long-term contract with Navteq for many of its maps around the world. My understanding is that Garmin nevertheless decided to go with TeleAtlas for the SE Asia map. Everything we know in terms of the identifiers on the maps on this thread suggests that they are made by TeleAtlas. So is this just another example of Garmin's ignorance of their own products? By the way, as far as I know from snippets on the web, ESRI is another global company and is not a subsidiary of Navteq. I think we really need somebody in the GPS business to guide us through the maze.

That is the ID for ver 8. Anyone have the ID number for Ver 9 ?

What I meant was, I tried ID number 57 and it did not work, googled many sites and no one has posted the ID number yet for VER 9. Hence why I was asking.

This has nothing to do with my native language.The id for ALL the thai maps from esri is the same.If it didn't work for you then you probably did something wrong cos it worked for me.By the way do a google there are several sites that have published all the garmin id's including the Tsm V9.0

You can also use FID:100 PID:1 This code is used for a No Pain version download

Thanks Bpraim1, I went with the No Pain version as it is "no pain"

It worked very well and I now have it up and running. I see this version is far better than the SE Asia version 3 for detail.

ESRI TSM v9.0 even has the Kanchanaphisek Bridge properly labeled and in place.

I used the bridge coordinates for SEA_NT_TA200803 v3.00 and they are accurate. It took me right to the middle of the river but there was no bridge. The routing is different from ESRI V9 too. The fastest route from my home to Jomtien was 37 kilometers further. Amazingly enough, the shortest route was shorter but there appears to be some VERY minor roads on the route. I think I'll keep the newest ESRI V9 map.

A bit late but the .img file (Thai & English) both show PID 1, FID 57, Thailand StreetMap v9.0 NT. Hope this helps.

Where is the no pain site, I can't seem to find a download for V9 or NT 4 (asia) for free.

We cant link on TV to copyright material.

But google "garmin thai map no pain edition" lists 3 or 4 of the main well known places were constant map updates and releases are posted in the front page.

Just an update:

At the moment the S.E Asia map version 4.50 is available and is in NT format. (Family ID is 2044). This map covers Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Macao and is sold by Garmin

ESRI has version 9.0 available (Family ID = 57) and is also in NT format.

The SE Asia has indeed many more roads in rural areas. However, a lot of these rural roads shown on the GPS map are nothing more than walking trails so when you use auto-routing blindly you may end up in strange places.

The Rotweiler map appears to be an edited/modified copy of the ESRI version 7 map (Family ID = 5065 if I am not mistaken) and is in the non NT format

Both maps (SE Asia and ESRI) are available as gmapsupp.img files which is the format which is used by the GPS. Using GmapTool the gmapsupp.img file can be split in individual "maps" and the map can then be used in Mapsource as several people have indicated here. The Rotweiler map comes ready for Mapsource.

There are some rumors that ESRI will come out with a new version soon (probably version 10 I guess) and I assume that this new map will also be in NT format. This NT format is a special format (kind of .zip format) which compresses the file and makes the map considerable smaller when compared with the non NT version

This NT format, up to now, has not been hacked in terms that the contents can not be copied and used in another map - this could also be the reason why the Rotweiler map is behind the time. The map however can be hacked in that a new lock (25 numerical code) can be inserted to make it compatible with other GPS ID's or the lock can be completely removed so it can be used in any Garmin GPS.

Excuse me for my stupidity, i have recently "acquired" from one of those well known sites talked about a download of the Garmin GPS map v9.

Is there a specific way to upload the map on to an SD card, as my Garmin Oregon 300 doesn't seem to be recognising it.

I am lead to believe this map can run on this unit, any advise on getting up and running appreciated

Depends on what you have if its the gmapsupp.img file its often just to be loaded onto the device (will overwrite existing maps of you delete the exisiting file/files).

Or it might need unlocking.. Jetmouse unlocker exists online.

Or you might have a mapsource installer.. Again could be unlocked already or locked.

It is the gmapsupp.img i have, and as far a I'm aware it is unlocked?

I have also got the mapinstaller app, can this cause a problem.

If you have the map as an unlocked gmapsupp.img file then you just copy it (overwrite the existing map file) into your GPS memory. If you have more than one (1) map installed that you want to keep, then you may need to rename one of the maps.

Edit: Just noticed that you are asking about a Oregon 300. The info provided was for a Nuvi series, not sure if they are the same.
