danone yes I have also wondered the same thing. I'm glad for the country
he's gone but now that the holiday in London he claims he was having
has probably worn off, surely it must be incredibly difficult for him
to realise he can never come back to Thailand without risking
being prosecuted ? I wonder what was more important to him -
his feelings for his friends and country or just having all that
money in the bank ?
And I dont think he had a a soft spot for farangs -what do you think?
It's ironic that he is now forced to stay amongst them ! It must be a shock to
his system to suddenly be treated like any other bloke in the street
in a big city thousands of kilometers away from your home ?
I also wondered whether he could be the first-ever Thai
to live ' in exile ' ?

My guess is that he's aboard a large, fully serviced luxury yacht, sipping Dom Perignon, eating freshly cooked lobsters before retiring to the yachts library to enjoy cognac and Cuban cigars.
It's a hel_l of a tough life living in exile when your down to your last billion.

exile is not an unknown place for formerly leading thai people.

interestingly though not one government leader who was thrown out by a coup d'état had lost his money, as I can recall.

the last one, chatchai choonhavan, first got his fortunes confiscated, but he got them back because of technical errors of the court proceedings ...

will be interesting to watch how exactly thaksin is taken on the hooks. one can never rule out that a deal has already been made behind the scenes. you leave us in peace, we leave you in peace.

I read that a monk told him that he will come back within 18 month, so I think he is counting his money and planning some troubles. But not heared anything yet.

Yes he is enjoying a comfortable life in the UK with his billions.
However he is definately trying to come back to power. Don't forget he still has a lot of influence here with people in power, northeasterners, politicians, military and the police. They are a lot of people that wants Taksin back for their own benefits. He knows that the longer he stays away the more difficult it is going to be to retain his power base. He can easily manipulate many Thais in getting what he wants by bribeing plus he still got the power and financial resources.
No place is as comfortable as "home".

if he has so many loyalists, why hasnt any of them faced the tanks?

loyalty here is mostly bought. if the flow of money dries up, loyalty goes down the drain.

I think thaksin is done. it will be too dangerous in the future to be his friend. the current and future governments will make sure that he CAN NOT come back for a comeback.

so sad. so high he was. and still falling.

Maybe applying for a job with McDonald's in London? laugh.gif

Well, I guess, he's coming back to LOS sometime - and everything will be like nothing has happened before. He even might try to become PM again. Who knows? One thing is sure: TIT wink.gif

well I accept TIT but I find it very hard to believe that nothing other
than a miracle will allow him back into power ?
And even if that miracle occurred, would the international community
take him seriously ever again ? I mean surely he could never
be so hard faced as to show up at the United Nations ever again ? unsure.gif

How long can he stay in the UK for?
Does he have to take a visa run to the French border every 30 days?

Definitely not China - live under a repressive regime that he is not part of???? whistling.gif

Singapore has already hinted that as long as there is reason for him to face charges in Thailand then staying here is not an option.

Not much else around . . . ASEAN is out, North Asia is too cold . . .

My guess would be the US, for the long term, unless he comes back to LoS. .

I wonder if he will have as many visa problems in the UK as Brits do in Thailand....

no, chatchai choonhavan has reached eternity meanwhile, he passed away some years ago, after some peaceful years in thailand. his son though, one of the most vocal thaksin-critics, is very much alive and kickin'. former senator kraisak choonhavan was in talks to become the foreign minister under the interim government.
