Parking At Thepprasit Nightmarket: Beware!

Visited a friend in one of the buildings adjacent to the Thepprasit Nightmarket.
I parked my bike opposite the market on a free spot on the side of the road.

After an hour or so..........I found my bike gone, in fact........a lot of bikes has gone missing.
Sur place......2 coppers with big smiles explaining that I shouldn't have parked my bike along the red-white and yellow-white striping. Of course they were right, but who cares the striping along the side of the road, especially if there are no alternatives.

Anyway, I asked where my bike was and they answered: "Soi Korpai"..........yes, I know Soi Korpai, but where in Soi Korpai (my tone got slightly more agitated). "Soi Korpai, here is motorbike taxi can take you"
I answred: "I rather walk" and the reply was: "Long way mister..........."
My reply: "Is that your problem or my problem?" (now really agitated)
The younger one of the two coppers got as agitated as I was at that moment and his smile has changed into a nasty grin. Thai surrounders told me to: "Chaa yen yen".

Anyway, I phoned my friend who sent someone on a bike to take me to Soi Korpai, following a motorbike taxi-driver who has just picked up 2 victims. I was about to ask if it was allowed to have 2 passengers on a bike and if I was allowed to be a passenger without a helmet, but my driver sped away (smart action).

My bike was impounded at a remote area in a Soi of Soi 1 of Soi Korpai..............hundreds of bikes were parked waiting for a re-union with their owners for the "small" fee of THB 400 each. Of course it was possible to get a receipt.......but then I had to pay THB 500. I dropped the 4 THB 100 notes before the lady onsite could grab them, so at least she had to work for it.

I immediately drove back to the site along Thepprasit Road and got to the 2 coppers. The younger one immediately left, so I asked the older one: "Khun phood passaa Neteland, dai mai"........."Phood mai dai, khrub" So I put my friendliest face on and said: "Stelletje gore vieze teringlijders" and off I went. [Bunch of dirty filthy a**-holes]

Conclusion: Do NOT park your bike or car there where they painted red-white or yellow-white marking along the board walk, not even if there are hundreds of other bikes parked. During my second (short) encounter I even saw them loading bikes which were parked at 'blank' spots and there is parking allowed. Just beware.

Topless Russians

I been here a few years now (Pattaya) and I truly do not recall if this is a new twist or a common event. Topless Russians in mall's ,Tesco, Big C, etc. Not the women of course, but the men. I noticed this about 6 months ago, and of course it may have been going on much longer, it was than I just started to look for it.

I am talking young, old, fat, fit.. this takes on many variations. I have seen men walk up to the door and step in and take off their shirts.

Is this a common occurrence in the CIS, Baltic, and Russia ? Is this only here that it happens or also in other Asian countries. It is sad that in the States we had to place signs that stated "No shirt, No Shoes, No Service", but I guarantee it is enforced. Now many exceptions are made at beach side shops, but I have never seen this Malls.

Taxi From Suvarnabhumi

How much would a taxi cost from the airport to Pattaya? I remember there were lots of "hawkers" waiting in the arrival hall and offering transportation, but they seemed rather dodgy.

I'm assuming a taxi would transfer me all the way to my hotel, and not just to some central location in Pattaya, right?.

TIA,
Mike.

Legal Matters In The Uk

As I have been in the Kingdom for a number of years now, I had some legal matters to deal with in the Uk,As I did
not want to travel to the Uk,reasons expense, and time, I decided to look for a Lawyer who could possibly help me
in this sittuation,I looked at all the reputabale lawyers in town, but to no evail, finally a friend suggested a lawyer in *address removed*
who might be able to help,So I went to his office and took a buisness card,I looked on the website and found out he had a
legal friend in the Uk,well I thought it was my birthday hes the man for me,I dont know about anybody else, but living in
the Kingdom its wise not to jump to the first decision that comes in your head, check things out first. WellI am glad I did
,I e-mailed the S.R.A, Thats the "solicitors regulation authority" in London, Back came the news I was not expecting,
So at the moment I am at the same sittuation as I started, can anyone suggest a way out?

Mr. Wong......... So Long!

Has anyone been to Mr. Wong's watch shop in Wat Chai Market recently? I have used his shop for many many years and I have always been pleased with the service that he offered......... until now. Well, I had noticed that he was developing an attitude over the last couple of years but my visit yesterday was the last one that I will make to his shop.

There was a couple of "browsers" in the shop so I went straight up to the counter and asked him if he would fit a new battery n my watch. His response was "No time (sic!). Come back tomorrow or after tomorrow" and he waved me away disdainfully with a flick of his hand.

I replied "OK, Mr Wong, it's your loss" and I left and went round the corner to another watch shop and had a battery fitted immediately. The young man was polite, efficient and charged me 100 baht. (Last time Mr. Wong charged me 300 baht!!!)

So Mr. Wong... so long!!!

Swimming The River In Jomtien

Once again, Thailand's 4th world infrastructure was at work with the heavy rain. The usual river on the new second road by the immigration soi was in full flood. Maybe if they made the mayor swim it, he would make the contractors, who did such an exemplary job making the road, fix it...
