Jockstar Posted August 22, 2006 Share Posted August 22, 2006 (edited) Since the wife has got her visa for Oz now. We need to start thinking about getting stuff to Oz. Ok we can carry some stuff. Mostly clothes etc. But i have my PC, LCD monitor, printer, speakers, more clothes and bits and pieces. So i guess we need to send Excess baggage. Any suggestions on which one and how much roughly? Also how about this. DVD,s and PC games that were bought out here ie. not all originals. I really want to take them. Am i taking a big chance shipping them or carrying as part of hand luggage. After about 4 years here you can imagine the amount of stuff we have. So any suggestions guys would be much appreciated. Donz Posted August 22, 2006 Share Posted August 22, 2006 Well you can ship them via DHL, put your CD's for you computer in a cd booklet and mail the covers to your add in Oz, Customs dont really care that much about fake CD's as they looked at mine through customs and they didnt care as i only had about 10 cd's. verzenden Posted August 22, 2006 Share Posted August 22, 2006 Last year I brought 40 kilo's of lugage. I flew ElAL from Amsterdam to BKK. When checking in she said:"You got 20 kilo to much!" I said:"Yeh I know but please I'm gonna stay so long!". She said ok! I did have an option to leave 20 kilo's behind in case I had to pay extra for it. Last week I brought my GF to the airport. Amsterdam to BKK with China airlines. She had 27 kilo's. (lots of presents for family etc.) They said:"That's to much!" I said:"What you want us to do?" "Well it's 53 Euro's for every extra kilo, but if you can take out some lugage and put it into your hand-lugage it will all be fine!" So we shoveled over lot's of havy stuff from her suitcase into her hand-lugage and it was ok. What suprises me that still all 27 kilo's went into the plane! All of the airlines are very strict on excess baggage, and their charges are quite high. If you have stuff that you can't part with, ship it out. It will be much cheaper that way. I normally used "unaccompanied baggage" service from the airlines themselves. You drop off the gear at the airport the day before you fly and they will 'try' to get the stuff on the same flight as you, and if not then on the next available flight. You then visit the freight depot the day after you arrive in Sydney. If you are flying Qantas call these folks for rates.
