Tabien Baan - Do I Need It?

I purchased a small condo in Chiang Mai last year but I'm only residing here for one to three weeks every couple months as I am still working overseas. I don't plan on retiring very soon. I have the blue Tabien Baan from the previous owner. When I inquired about getting a yellow one in my name at I was told I would have to get a letter from immigration to have it processed, and maybe they would not help me as I am always in Thailand on a 30 day visa waiver. So, what is the purposed of this document, how do I get one, and is it even worth the hassle at this time?

Desperately looking for a welding shop in Chiang Mai to finish work on my 750cc Suzuki frame. For the last 5 month the motorcycle has been at a frame shop here in CM. The owner refuses to finish the job simply because I drop by twice in 4 months to see progress (no words or looks were exchanged). Need to think twice before using his services the shop is located on Assadathorn Rd just down from the intersection of Wishayanon RD. Thanks

Advice Please. Accommodation For A Group Of Six

I am bringing a group of six (including myself) to Chiangmai and Chiangrai between Xmas and New Year. Is it possible, in Chiangmai, to get hotel/guesthouse accommodation in two rooms - one for two people (Mrs Xang and myself) and one for four (3 adults and a child) 26-28 December?

It doesn't have to be budget accommodation - middle range would do, unless someone knows of really good deals in budget places. I was looking on the net at the Chiangmai Plaza (so we can be near the Night Bazaar). They have rooms for 4, but not for 3.

Any leads would much appreciated.

Xangsamhua

Secondhand Shops In Chiang Mai

Having done a search and come up blank I am interested to know if anyone is familiar with any [ good] secondhand goods shops, both buying and selling stuff? I have seen a small one on Wualai but this is really limited to small items--there was, also, a guy opened a store along Hang Dong Rd., opp. Koolapunt 9, but he's closed down. THere were a couple of large, and quite successful secondhand dealers, both farang, on Phuket some years back [ maybe still there??] but I have yet to find anything similar in C.Mai--apart from booksellers, that is. Anyone know of anywhere?

We are getting together a group of people to play Touch Rugby on Sunday afternoons.

For those who do not know Touch is a non contact version of rugby that is becoming increasingly popular. There is no tackling involved so it is an ideal mixed sex sport and we already have both men and women signed up to play.

You don't have to be a rugby expert or to have played before, some of the people coming to play know nothing about rugby but Touch is a simple game so if you don't know the rules you will soon pick it up.

We plan to play at 4pm probably at CMU so if you would like to join us drop me a PM so I can confirm details. Everyone is welcome it is just for a bit of fitness and fun.

A picture's worth a thousand words to have a look at the video

Loy Krathong, Forever ?

Is it my overactive imagination or is this year's LK going on forever ?

Did I miss something or when you have heard one bang, have you not really rather heard them all ? We have been "banging" for a month or so already and the last week it has been almost continuous both night and day. The hope that it might have been over after the second parade on Tuesday seems forlorn as here at Don Chan 11am Friday morning, there has just been the most colossal explosion like an artillery shell landing. I hate to be a killjoy but I am beginning to feel shell shocked.

This year I though there were far fewer lanterns and khrathongs but a lot more bangs and over a much longer period. I used to love LK but have always laid low for Songkran and it is, of course, much more difficult to avoid LK or at least the noise of it.

Please don't tell me I am just a miserable old fart but really is LK never going to be over this year or are we "banging" for something else now ???

Finding a girlfriend in England is not like it used to be. Now I'm past the age of fifty it seems like I don't stand a chance with any lady under the age of seventy :-(

So assume I move to CM. How available are the local ladies for relationships with old guys like me and what have been your experiences in finding loved ones. I'm not talking about bargirls or freelancers. I'd like to know how easy it is to meet educated girls from good families or at the very least a girl who is working in a position such as a hotel receptionist or a waitress in a restaurant.

Not having talked with any of the expats living in CM I'm wondering how many live with ladies they have brought over from their home country, how many found local ladies and how many live life single.

Thanks,

Mike
