Sriracha Information

I will be moving to Sriracha and have a couple of odd questions. Does anyone know if there are any of the big Korean Barbecue restaurants there (the 99 baht type)? Also, I am trying to find out what English channels the local cable tv company offers (I think it is called PTV but they have no website) and what the cost is as I will be there three days a week and don;t want to install True (UBC).

Obama Coming To Pattaya...

Yes folks I didn't believe it myself...but it's true! We, the people of Pattaya, will have the chance to see and bask in the reflected glory of "The One" up close and personal this October, when he makes his appearance at the newest kitchy tourist attraction Bill Heineke is opening at the Royal Garden Mall...a branch of Madame Taussaud's Wax Museum

The Museum will take up the space previously occupied by the movie theatres on the 3rd floor of the mall. For those of you who can't wait, you can wonder down now and see "The "One's" smiling visage adorning the doors and other spaces around the mall. (I wouldn't recommend this for you, George, at least on a full stomach, as it may cause you to loose it )

They Did It Again

Tonight around 10 pm when I drove to tesco lotus I noticed just around the corner of the traffic lights from Theprassit road on Sukhumvit the police had posted and dozens of motorbikes were parked.Reason of course because the drivers didn't wear a helmet.Perfect timing from the police as usual because the busy market on Thepprasit just ended. For me no issue because I don't drive a bike at night.
The only thing that annoys me every time I see this is that at the same time out of all directions cars, buses and trucks are jumping the red traffic light and are allowed to do while there is a police force standing right at the scene. These red light jumpers are all attempted murderers but for the Pattaya traffic police it is more important that traffic offenders without a helmet, who only can harm themselves, are verbalised.
When these w_nkers in brown gonna realise what is more important, murders in disguise or people who harm themselves.

Need Advice/opinions About Purchasing A Place In Pattaya.

Hi I was contemplating purchasing some property in Pattaya. The deal is, I already have a residence/house in BKK, and we (my family) has about a 100 rai plantation several hours North of BKK. I am a Thai citizen, so purchasing land is not a problem. I was looking for a small place in Pattaya that I could come up for weekends. I was eventually going to retire in Thailand, but wanted to/can afford to start buying now.

The questions that I have are as folows:

Do you think it would be better to buy a house or a condo? I really do not need that much space for a weekend getaway. I condo would probab ly suit me just fine, but the problem is I have a real fear about Thai condos because I have seen so many that once they get old, they start falling apart, and no one takes care of them. I really just don't trust that the condos will be kept up through the years. So I am asking about houses. But the problem with houses is if you are not there, then the problem is that people break into them. Basically, if you have a house, you cannot really leave it unattended, which this one would be as it is a weekend getaway type of thing.

Also, do you know of any communities that I could buy into with alot of Falang around? Like particular condos that alot of falangs own, or neighborhoods? When I was last in Pattaya I picked up the real estate papers where they were doing a new neighborhood of homes (cheap too) which included the company which would own the house for the new owner (falang). Are there any places like that that you know of? Thanks.

Dark Side Experience

I've been living on the Dark Side, AKA East Pattaya for about six months. I'm always on the look out dor a new place to eat, whether is be a simple noodle shop or a restaurant featuring western food.

Anyway, I stumbled on a couple of restaurants that made me wonder if I was still in Pattaya. (Reference to a bar/restaurant in Soi 8 that I was abused for simply looking towards the kitchen area in expectation of my meal...) The first restaurant I want to praise is Chok Dee, a little place located on Soi Kao ta lo, near the Villa grocery store. My first visit there I was the only customer and they showered me with attention. The Thai food is excellent -I especially like the kai jeow (scrambled eggs) and they also have western food as well. The owner, Khun Ann, was anxious to please and sat at my table, asking if the meal meet my expectations and eager for tips on improvement. Yes she actually wanted feed back, be it positve or negative.

The second place is on Soi Kao ta lo, opposite the new and empty market about half way to Sukumvit RD. My first visit was two days ago and I ordered grapao moo chin with egg (spicy pork) and a large Leo. The owner (?) Khun Wan talked to me for a long time; she is keenly aware of the global economic slowdown and seemed anxious to keep and, if possible, add to her customer base. I went back today and ordered Schwein Schnitzel with fries and a large Leo. Total damage was B154. What a bargain! Interesting thing happened while I was there, one guy without both oars in the water could not pay his bill and said he would pay tomorrow. Khun Wan seemed embarrased by it and reassured the customer that it was fine to pay tomorrow. I later over heard her explaiing to another customer that she saw the guy walk by every day and she felt that he would honor his debt. If he didn't, she was not going to worry about it...

Man, hats off to both of these hard working and HONEST Thai business operators; I certainly hope that their business ventures prosper
