Snakes In Rawai

Living down in Rawai, and was wondering where the nearest place is for anti-venom in the event of a snake bite? I know there is a clinic opposite the Sea shell museum - Do they have it?

My son is at the age where he likes to explore in the garden, we have tried to clear the dingy corners and we have two dogs, is there any other preventative measures we could take?

thanks in advance

Stereotypical Rawai

The colloqial name for Rawai in yon parts is "God's Waiting Room".

Just got back from an evening out in Rawai and Chalong. Very quiet and at 50 years old, I'm still within the youngest 50% of the customers in most bars.

Went to a Chav bar in Rawai and felt totally naked as the only bloke without a tattoo. Extra points if you have a shaved head. Triple points if you are wearing a "wife-beater" T-shirt.

Saw loads of retirees with much younger wives, not swapping a word in half-an-hour. Very sad.

The place is definitely going down hill.

Urgent: Drunken Patong Police Man Has Abducted An Australien Lady

Just had an Subay sandwich at Subway, rath-u-tit road.

One very drunk australien girl was sitting outside the Subway shop, I asked her several times if she was okay, she did not answer very nicely. Her mobile kept on ringing and messages beeped
I though okay she can take care of her self, when I left she was at sleep, I did return after five minutes to collect the sandwish i had forgotten on the outside table.

Went in and asked the Subway staff if they knew her, one of the staff went outside with me to check her out, managed to get her friends mobile number, last incoming call.
His name is Fredrik, must be swedish, [removed number]. called him but no answer.

i tried several times to ask her some question but got not more out of her, that she is australian.

A civil dressed drunken police man showed up and said he would take her to the police station and pulled her to his motorbike.

I went around the corner an drove my car to the police station, he was not there, I drove out from the police station and met him driving his bike with her on the pillion, near to fall off. He stopped at the center road divider and pushed her straight up.

To me it looked like he was going to pass the station so I called to him to bring her to the police station. He drove in and again very strange, he drove intyo the back of the station area where the sleeping quarters are, I flashed my lights and he turned towards the station.

He parked his bike opposite the station entry and told me that he was going to seat her there, I told him why not inside the station, he then pushed her to the traffic police side and entered, I went in to the daily cleck office and told the cleck there about this matter. he went outside with me and then I saw that him leaving the station with her pillion.

I went into the traffic police office to ask what just happened and they told me to go to the daily cleck with my questions, the clerk he just shaked his head and turned his back to me.

Man, a drunken police man and intoxicated farang lady, and did he really try to avoid getting her into the station, this guy has no good attention in this situation.

And I'm angry for her friend not to answer his dam_n mobile even if it is 0530 in the morning.

Hope all well for her.

Burglary

It's surely a sign that the economy is not in great shape - we had unwelcome visitors at 4am this morning, entered through a first floor window only ten feet from where we were sleeping and left by the front door - we never heard a thing! Only small easily disposed of items were taken, a watch, camera and a mobile but the hassle of it all plus the feeling of being violated was pretty bad. Suggest you all take a few minutes out and triple check the security side of things, even those windows that seem like they are impossible to access from the outside, folks out there are getting hungry!

Not sure whether to put this in Real Estate forum or here, but i guess a mod will move it if req'd.

I am thinking of moving to Phuket start of next year and wondering where is a good location. I want to be close enough to Patong to go out and party 3 or 4 nights a week, but i want a detached house far enough away from Patong that I can get peace when i want it. I also dont want to be a huge distance from the airport since i work offshore and travel a lot. Top budget is maybe 45k a month.

Any thoughts would be appreciated as most of the properties I have seen are in Chalong and that doesnt seem a good location for what I am looking for.

Any Chinese Tutors/language Schools In Phuket?

As part of a plan to upgrade my professional qualifications and skills in IT and Project Management, I want to improve my language skills so that I can pitch for jobs outside of Thailand. In my skill area, there are quite a number of attractive jobs in China. So I would like to learn Mandarin Chinese to an intermediate level to improve my chances of employment. (Many of these jobs ask for basic knowledge of Mandarin).

I did learn to read/write/speak very basic Mandarin some 6 years ago, and actually found it easier to learn than Thai.

The language schools that I have contacted in Phuket offer several language courses, but Chinese is not one of them

Can anyone suggest a language school or private tutor who can assist me to learn to speak, read and write Mandarin?

Thanks

Simon
