Day Trips To Ko Samet & Ko Chang - Last Bus Return ?

I will be staying in Pattaya for a week and plan to do some day trips; to Ko Samet and Ko Chang especially. Anyone know what's the latest time I must leave these islands in order to catch the respective ferry and bus back to Pattaya ? Wonder if I have at least 3 to 5 hrs there if I leave Pattaya around 9 am ?

What other day trips will you recommend ?

Is Trat and Samut Prakan advisable ?

Thanks.

Very New Korean Restaurant In North Pattaya, Looks Good ... But ...

New restaurant alert!
It's been open less than a week.
It's Seoul Korean restaurant on Pattaya North road, same side as Tesco Lotus, a little bit towards the beach.
I popped in there to look at their menu after already having eaten at a Korean restaurant on 3rd road (which is clearly the local Koreatown area).
The menu at this new place looks very promising. Mind you, I'm not into the BBQ part of the menu, they have that of course as all the Korean places do. I favor the soups and stews part of the menu. On that part, my first impression is that they have the best Korean menu I've seen not only in Pattaya but even Bangkok (though there are so many in Bangkok that I haven't seen you can discount that). Best as in more choices, dishes you don't see everywhere, etc.

Prices? About the same as the local standard (bargain in my view) on about 3/4 of the items and oddly MUCH higher on some items.

No, I haven't eaten there yet, obviously.

Here is the problem. I was trying to eyeball the food on the tables and the staff there was getting annoyed with me because I had made it clear I wasn't going to eat there right then. On three tables I looked at, there were only TWO Banchan side dishes! I was rather shocked as at least six is pretty standard at Korean places everywhere. They saw me looking and I asked, only two side dishes, and I think they understood me and they said yes. I am not fully confident though about what I saw and how they responded. Also, it is possible some dishes may come with two and other orders come with more. Perhaps you get more if you order from the BBQ menu? In any case, I'm sure I'll try this place at least one time to try one of the dishes there not available other places. BUT if they really only give two Banchan side dishes, I'll never be a regular, as that's really a deal killer for me.

To be clear, I may be wrong about their banchan policy. Anyway, you've got the new restaurant report, vague as it is ...

Here is a typical "free" Banchan offering that comes with any order at most Korean restaurants:

Buying A Motorcycle In Pattaya

ok...after having rented for five days a Yamaha Nuovo, I kinda like the idea of getting an automatic scooter myself.

Had a look at some shops in Pattaya today and seems like the prices are everywhere the same. Nuovo 57,500 and the Honda Click 53,500.

Now I tendered the idea of a 50% downpayment and the rest on instalments. First shop said YOU CANNOT YOU FARANG. Second shop (Mit Yon) offered me a whopping 2.4% - per MONTH!! As too my knowledge, the legal limit for interest in Thailand is 15% and for credit cards 18%. 2.4% per year is almost twice as much. Is this "industry standard" for the motorcycle shops or did they try to overcharge me? Wouldn't agree on that proposal anyways, but curious to know what experience the others on the board had.

last not least, if there is someone outside who is interested in selling his well maintained fully automatic scooter at a reasonable price, please PM me.

How is the loss in value in the first, second, third....year?

Le Strogonoff

One of my friends was taken to Le Strogonoff restaurant in Jomptien last week and told me he'd had a great meal. He tried to explain to me where it is but I'm afraid he's not that familiar with the area. He said, turn right at the junction of Theprasit Road and the road between Jomptien and Pattaya and then turn left down a road going towards the sea. I tried to find it but all I could find was a road full of Russian hotels and bars. I'm sure it's not down there. I looked on the internet and they do have a site but no address. I telephoned the restaurant itself but all I got was "it's in Patamnak" and the line was very poor. Has anyone been there and can tell me how to find it please.

Dentist In Pattaya

I was in Pattaya the past week searching for a dentist to replace my lower 3 tooth bridge. I visited all the dentists that were recommended on another thread and several others that I happened to pass by. Prices for the bridge were from the cheapest of B7,000 (per tooth) to B 16,000 depending on the type backing. The two places that I liked best are Dental Smile (Dr. Cherry) on 3rd road and Studio Smile (Dr. Tappasit) near Dolphin Circle. Their prices were the same for the bridge that I will probably choose, 12,000 bhat per tooth, 2% gold. Their cheapest is B 7,000. The other places that I visited I didn't like for one reason or another from the German Dental Clinic to small one room clinics. Must decide soon on either Dr Cherry or Dr. Tappasit.

Koh Larn Beach Getting Really Filthy

What used to be a real clean beach close to Pattaya, Samae Beach on Koh Larn is now loaded with rubbish with a lot of plastic bags floating a few inches below the surface. They look to have been in the water for quite some time with many of them starting to be covered with algae, so I'm not sure they are from a local dump or coming all the way from the main land, but it's very sad to see what used to be a pristine beach turning the way Pattaya beach itself has turned.

I haven't been to another Koh Larn beach lately so I don't know if it's specific to Samae. Anyone?

Yellow Shirt Rally Near City Hall Last Night

The stage was on the city hall side of the street and the crowd was on the Big C side of the street. The speakers were very loud and angry sounding. I didn't linger, just passing by. I didn't feel welcome as a foreigner as you could cut the hyper-nationalism with a knife.

Anyone know if something from the yellows is brewing? Are those yellow shirt rallies there a regular thing or is something up?
