Two Russian women killed at Jomthien beach PATTAYA: -- Two Russian women, both tourists, have been shot dead in the Eastern seaboard resort of Jomthien, adjacent to Pattaya, about 110 kilometers (70 miles) southeast of Bangkok, police said. Tatiana Tsimfer, 30 and Liubov Svirkova, 25 were killed when an unidentified gunman fired four shots from a 9 mm pistol, police said. Their bodies were found lying on the beach while their personal effects were left untouched. Witnesses reportedly told police that they saw the victims drinking alcohol and swimming earlier. Initially, police investigators believed that the Russian tourists probably quarreled severely with a beach chair concessionnaire which led to the later violence. Police are searching for the operator to investigate. --TNA 2007-02-24 One can't help but feel that is more to this than the above. Don't know that many people in Jomtiem but happen to be going tomorrow, so will ask some of the locals I do know and report back! #78Posted 2007-02-24 17:38:54
My guess is that their Russian pimps stepped on too many Thai toes. This was just a warning from Thai pimps or the Police on who is boss in that particular stretch of coastline. You are quite wrong to assume that these two women were prostitutes. The story so far suggests that they were on a two week holiday and staying in a comfortable hotel nearby, just enjoying a drink and bathing in the sea. #79Posted 2007-02-24 17:41:20
Regardless of who or why it has happened.
Is the city of Pattaya to ###### cheap to provide deck chairs without charge and someone to monitor them. I guess the 5,000 baht a month to pay a few people to monitor government provided chairs on a public beach is too much for old patters to handle. Simple to set up vendor points for those who wish to make orders of food and drink every 100 yards and the same for the roving massage and vendors. Let the vendors pay for a spot in which to hock their products and they will be limited to that spot or the streets away from the beach side. Anyone else will or should be considered of illegal business operation and punished in kind. The havoc and hassle in the present system on a public beach is pathetic. #80Posted 2007-02-24 17:44:13
What kind of person would kill 2 girls in the middle of the day on the beach? This is horrible news. Mafiosa comes to mind. Conflicts of interest look likely in this case, i,m sad to say from the report, without wanting to raise the morality issues. Let,s hope it doesn,t develop into something even more shocking. marshbags Edited by marshbags, 2007-02-24 17:46:36. #82Posted 2007-02-24 17:52:05

I have never seen deck chair attendants around so early in the morning ! in in any case if they were lazing on deck chairs surely there would've been at least a few other people around but is no mention of this ? #83Posted 2007-02-24 17:53:20
######,
next time just sit on a hotel beach towel... The chairs are really like getting "The Chair"... but seriously... this is way over the TIT limit... #84Posted 2007-02-24 17:56:54
The amount of crime and in particular crime targeting tourists in Pattaya reflects the criminality (and amateurish criminality, at that) of the politicians and police who run the city.
#85Posted 2007-02-24 17:58:45
The Nation "Police said they were shot and killed on beach chairs on the Jomtien Beach at about 5 am. A security officer of a nearby resort said he heard gunfire and saw a Thai man rushing up from the beach and fleeing on a motorcycle. He checked the beach and found the two Russian women lying dead on the beach chairs." What brave chaps these Thais are when they have a gun against two women sun bathing in deck chairs or when there are 12 of them kicking a drunk farang on the ground. No wonder their military is so pathetic - beaten by Laos in 1988, nealy beaten by Burma a couple of times and too cowardly to send reinforcements to help patrols under fire in the South. Finally! A underlying reason for Thailand's problems... Thai Men! Sounds good to me. Let's start a website, say, http://mai-mee-kai.com #86Posted 2007-02-24 18:00:13
I rekon probably arrogant weston attitude, Thais are shooting Thais everyday for things like this, but when the arrogance comes from a westoner they snap even faster. these day's with the city full of farang we can only expect it to get worse.

Anyone strike it odd they were out at 5AM in beach chairs?
#88Posted 2007-02-24 18:08:00
I agree who thinking that the thai owner of chairs shot the girls, as I saw in Jomtien they are more rude then what a tourist place need.
Also russian are not agreable expecially when drunk but that reaction must be clearly punished. #89Posted 2007-02-24 18:11:08
You realy have to love Thaivisa.com, within 13 posts the two female victims of an outragously violent act are presumed to be sex workers based only on there nationality. Go figure. #90Posted 2007-02-24 18:19:52
Anyone strike it odd they were out at 5AM in beach chairs? Not at all, many places tourist partying start late and last well into the next morning. I guess when they find the deck chair guy and ask him why he did not show up for work after the crime, might they know the whole story or at least his side of it. If he was there at that time of day to collect from tourist why should they not be there to use them. #91Posted 2007-02-24 18:21:27
something wrong here
I walked past this point at 7.35 this morning and there was nothing unusual - nothing. And so no one reported this at 5 AM in the morning. After my walk I had breakfast and then walked past this point again. In this 1 hour period the police had done all their business and the bodies were gone. I stood there looking at the taped off area and saw nothing. No one sitting in chairs as the bodies were removed. There were more than 60 police coming and going in the next few hours. I asked the beach chair vendor what happened and he said they were already chasing the killer. Possible mafia he said. I pointed to the overhead cameras within 3 meters of where it happened and he said no work. There are several more cameras around this area and so maybe one of them works. Some people don't beleive me when I say crime is out of control in Pattaya and Jomtien. I have been in Thailand a long time moved to Jomtien to get away from the crime in Pattaya and now Jomtien is almost as bad. I hope the International press pick up on this so people will know of the dangers that face them by coming here for a holiday. Loosing face is no longer an excuse for Thais or anyone else. I only have 35 days left in Thailand thank God. I will have to stay covert in my condo. P.S Anyone looking for a condo to rent in Jomtien please PM. me. Cheers Tony No prizes for guessing what happened next eh?? Yep the next day I was compelled to pay for damage on the opposite side of the motorcycle that it should have been if indeed it was parked where they claimed. Oh yeah, that and no corresponding scratch on my car. Yeah right... this is out of control and I will always always hate Pattaya, and anything to do with it. Sadly Jomtien is infected also now. I hope the Russians report this widely. I hope they stop coming to Pattaya or Jomtien until the police can start stopping these problems rather than being an integral part of it... Pattaya is the bumho_le of Thailand. Jomtien is the armpits of Thailand. Pathetic places. Tragic about the girls. The sad truth is this: until the tourists stop coming to these shiteholes.........nothing will change. Edited by LoveDaBlues, 2007-02-24 18:32:00. #93Posted 2007-02-24 18:22:27
If it involves violence and Russians then it's usually not random at all. I bet there's a lot more to this. #95Posted 2007-02-24 18:25:54
More information in this news report...
SOURCE: Pattaya People News: February 24th 2007 Mindless Murder of Two Russians on Jomtien Beach On the 24th of February at 6.00am Dongtan Police were called to the scene of a double murder on Jomtien Beach opposite Soi 18. Police rushed to the scene along with Rescue Volunteers and found two brutally slain Russian lady tourists named Miss Liubov Svirkova aged 25 and Miss Tatiana Tsimfer aged 30, slumped on two beach chairs. They had been mindlessly shot dead by someone using a 9mm gun. Police found a mobile phone, a bottle of whisky, a pack of cigarettes and a paper bag containing clothes and passports belonging to the women, untouched on table. Police discovered foot prints in the sand around the beach chairs which may have come from the assailant’s combat boots; they also found four bullet shells. Security guard of the Ananya Hotel, Jomtien, Khun Somsak Noonoi, told Police that at 3 am he was on duty and noticed the two Russians Ladies leaving the Dragon Beach Resort only 500 meters away from the murder scene on the beach. The ladies apparently liked to watch the dawn arrive whilst having a drink on the beach. At 5 am he heard a gun shot and bravely headed towards the area of the blast. Whilst running to the scene he heard three more shots fired. He spotted a Thai man who was walking calmly from the scene. He simply jumped on his motorbike and drove off quickly towards the Chaiyapruek Police box. It is unclear at present if the Security Guard managed to write down the license plate number of the bike and a police investigation is quite obviously underway. It would make me happy to be wrong, but Mafia killings aren't always perpetrated against prostitutes, it could be the Russian pimps girlfriends or even family. And btw, Russian prostitutes that come to work in Thailand don't admit to being hookers, they come in under the guise of a tourist. Two young women drinking a bottle of booze on the beach at 3-6 am. Doesn't sound like they are scared of anything, that in itself should tell you something. Edited by pampal, 2007-02-24 18:34:12. #97Posted 2007-02-24 18:28:53
Are we to understand from intimations in the press reports that this was a police-condoned killing? (2 killings actually)

I thought you would know that I know of one where a prostitute was killed. This was back in Russia though. She was brutally slain and a video of the killing was sent to her work mates in Macau....don't try and run away from a contract etc.. #99Posted 2007-02-24 18:37:58
Come to Jomtien where there is a lot of competition in the p4p biz....and only stay 2 weeks? Doesn't sound like prossies to me......could barely make air fare/expenses in 2 weeks......

Ok watch the sunrise - least thats more explainable and if they have been doing it, so a daily pattern has been established. Again I don't think this was a random act - they were targeted. Killer or killers knew they did this on a daily basis, and saw the opportunity.
