Thailand and five neighboring countries cooperate to fight bird flu
Thailand joins hands with five Asian countries in preparation for the possible bird flu outbreak.
Thailand sends officials from various agencies from tourism to defence sectors to Siem Reap in Cambodia where six nations, including Thailand, China, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and Myanmar are working together to seek measures to tackle bird flu problems. All six nations are neighboring countries and they also have experiences on the disease.
Yesterday (Mar 13), delegates from the six countries referred to the preventive measures against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, or SARS. The disease killed almost 800 people around the world. Participants discussed ways to prevent public health officers from getting infected and measures to prevent infected people from crossing the national borders.
Even thought the H5N1 virus has not mutated to a more dangerous strain, representatives from the six Asian countries are concerned that it will mutate in the future and create a massive pandemic.
