Thai researchers work on avian flu compartmentalization system
Thai researchers are increasing efforts into compartmentalization research in order to prevent avian flu outbreaks in animal farms.
Assistant Professor DVM Sirichai Wongnakpech (ศิริชัย วงษ์นาคเพ็ชร์) of Kasetsart University reported the progress of university researchers into the development of a compartmentalization system to prevent the spread of avian flu in poultry farms. The system will be Thailand's first structural avian flu prevention component, following an avian flu outbreak in 2004 which devastated 69 percent of poultry farm animals.
The Kasetsart researchers will be funded by the National Research Council of Thailand and will be conducting field testing of their system in Ayyuthaya, Suphan Buri, Nakhon Pathom, Ratchaburi, and Chachoengsao. Asst Prof Sirichai revealed that researchers will be continually developing avian flu prevention methods and hopes to expand their system into neighboring countries in the future.
