Does anybody know of a reputable Dermatologist in Chiang Mai. I have tried Ram and Lanna, both about as much good as a chocolate fireguard.

Thanks.

The Huay Kaew Clinic, Huay Kaew Road is run by Dr. Pairat. His wife is an assistant professor at CMU Medical College with a speciality in Paediatric Dermatology.
She is seldom in the clinic, but can be found at Maharaj Hospital daily. Not much help if you need adult dermatology, I'm afraid. But she is a recognised expert in children's skin problems and author of a couple of standard text books in English. She lectures all over the world.
Dr Pairat, although not a dermatologist will have the contacts you need.

If you are on Moon Muang Road at Thapae Gate and walk towards the intersection with the original Mike's Burgers and the newest Gecko Books you will find a good dermatologist about 3/4 of the way to the intersection. It is near The Cafe' Restaurant. He has been there for ever and speaks English well.
I traveled all over SEA with a horrible skin disease that no one knew how to treat and he cleared it up in no time.

I was impressed with Dr. Vachirapon as well.  I have more than one skin condition that are cosmetic in nature and thus I don't try to get a cure. However, it is a good test of a dermatologist,s knowledge to ask what they can do for my cosmetic problems. She passed my test with flying colors.

Her boss, or more senior doctor is still quite young and has western training, but not as extensive as Dr. Vahiarpon.  He was at Rama 2 and only at Rama 1 on Wednesdays when those two hospitals were affiliated. Now he is at Rama three days a week and Dr Vahiapon is on other alternate days.  A telephone call to the dermatology clinic will determine which days she is on.

I found the older male doctor quite skillful with a biopsy but he has  a personality problem, very abrupt and was quite rude to my Thai mate to the point that treatment was discontinued.

The lady doctor is my choice.

However, I must relate what my cardiologist told me about dermatologists years ago, they can't hurt you but they also can't help you.  I take that with a grain of salt, but I must say, that on the whole, dermatologists have done very little to help me as most of my skin conditions are not really treatable, as many skin conditions are likewise not treatable. If you have a skin condition that is truly treatable and curable, consider yourself lucky.

The old saying was that the patients never die & never get better (thus an easy & secure clientele) & you never have to go out in the middle of the night to treat them.

This would not apply to melanoma etc., of course.

The senior doctors name is Dr. Chiewpanich and I had done some cosmetic things, both laser and nitrogen freezing, he did perfect work.... :o

"and is up to date on falang skin disorders"

This is the key. Caucasian skin disorders (or conditions) are not anything like the same, as asian skin conditions.

I am tempted to make an appointment just to see the most beautiful dr in CM  :D

If she can enhance my already considerable "handsome-man-ness" that would be a bonus.  :o

We go to Dr. Siri for skin problems. He has an office on Moon Muang and an office at the Special Medical Services Center at Maharaj (Sripat).

He is a Professor at CMU, does research, practiced medicine in the USA, and is considered to be one of the best doctors in Thailand. He speaks fluent English.

If I am standing on Moon Muang Road at Thapae Gate, there are three directions in which I can proceed: (1) North on Moon Muang Road; (2) South on Moon Muang Road; or (3) West on Ratchadamnern Road. Assuming that I do not know the locations of Mike’s original burger shop, the newest Gecko bookshop, the Café restaurant, or the car seller’s tent, which option must I choose, and approximately how far should I expect to walk (in any of the generally accepted international measures of distance) before arriving at the clinic? Are you at liberty to reveal the doctor’s name or any other information that might be displayed as an indication of his practice?

Much obliged.

His name is Dr. Siri and his address is 119 Thanon Moon Muang; fairly close to a Wat and only a few doors from the Montri (sign on the clinic window is in Thai only). Get there early (like 16:30), take a number and return at 18:00 unless you like waiting.

Yes, Dr Vachiraporn of CM Ram 1 is excellent. In addition to her credentials and competence, she is a very caring individual. As an aside, she is the most beautiful doctor around here, but also happily married....to another doctor.  You can make appointments on the 4th floor...home care department.

I concur. After spending 8 years in Bangkok and having been mis diagnosed a couple of times by, so called leading and very expensive  hospitals,I was delighted to have 3 visits with Dr Vachiraporn to receive treatment.

After 2 previous melanomas and nearly 150 BCC's scraped , frozen and cut out in the past I consider myelf to be high risk and finding this Dr means I dont have to travel to my home country, Australia, as I previously did. I would urge anyone who has ongoing problems to schedule 3 monthly visits and stay on top of the situation.

I sincerely hope she does not have any ideas of relocating  at some time in the future.

Good Lord.

I just looked at the CM RAM website to try to make an appointment for Dr. Vachiraporn, and (hello, lack of privacy), it has her resume on there with her home address, marital status (single), and everything else!

Only in Thailand!

The above advice is pretty spot on.  I went to see him last weekend about a scalp problem and he didn't even want to look at my head.  I was in there for no longer than three minutes and left with two bottles of cream and a bottle of shampoo.  I'm not sure if his speed was a good thing or a bad thing.  It's been a few days since using the products and it does seem a little better.

Most of my thai friends say the most beautiful dermatologist in Thailand is Dr. Mona of M&T Face Care Center
Trained at the University of Miami, she is often seen in most magazines.  Too bad she doesn't practice in CM eh?
