My own favourite with best terrace in downtown of Bangkok:

I totally love this restaurant at Huai Kwan. You have to take exit 1 from MRTA and walk towards Honda-Dealer (Huge sign you can't miss it). Next to that is even bigger sign where is restaurant's name: iKaraoke and microphone pictured too. Turn right and you are there, restaurant is after the parking lot on your left.

Very good quality (only) Thaifood with cheap prices. Livemusic everynight from about 19.00.

This Chicken fried with lemongrass is very good, almost best thai dish I've ever had. (unless you don't like lemongrass!):

Not too impressed to see you recommending shark fin dishes.  I thought most visitors had the knowledge and compassion to avoid food such as this for obvious reasons.

Apart from that, I'll be trying the one at Huai Kwang.

I agree, anyone with even a cursory level of ecological awareness should never touch the stuff.

Hey everyone if you are looking for a truly great dining experience in Bangkok with a unique atmosphere, go to the Texas Lone Staar, located in Washington Square. Their SOS toped with a couple of fried eggs and a side of home fried potatoes is to die for!!!     :o

I thought I would dig this thread up again as I want to go somewhere nice to eat again tonight (my birthday  :o) , any new suggestions for a quiet, romantic restaurant, not too expensive (1500-2000 for 2, excluding drinks).

Cheers!

Does anyone know of a decent Tapas restaurant as well? I have heard of Rioja, but have never been. Any good?

If you like Indian, Indus on 26 is fantastic and the ambience is great. Perfect for a romantic meal.

Also a bit of a fan of V9 Sofitel - nice ambience, views, and wines. Food is also good.

The newest trendy place is Long Table

The onion rings are the best I've ever had anywhere and the other food is great as well.

Terrific views and decor as well

Hi Doza, yeah I love Indus, I had their lunch menu last week actually, really nice. Unfortunately I feel a bit bloated after Indian food so maybe not the best idea for a "romantic" evening!  :o

The Rang Mahal at the Rembrandt used to be my favorite high end Indian in BKK but I now reckon the relatively new Indus in Suk Soi 26 is better... Location and ambience are nicer too...

I haven't been to the Rembrandt, but I agree about Indus, by far the best Indian food that I have had in Bangkok.

And last but not least, Coyote on Phrom Pong. You should try their nachos with chicken and also fajitas with prawns. Best Mexican food that I've ever tasted

Not sure about this one. IMO the food in Coyote is pretty average, not a bad atmosphere tho, especially on a Thursday (Ladies night  :o )

Hi Guys. Where exactly is Coyote? Thanks

There is one on Soi Convent (nearer Silom side) and one next to the corner of Sukhumvit Soi 33.

I went to Tapas on Sukhumvit Soi 11 in the end last night. Really nice food. It is not the best decor etc, but the food more than makes up for it. Highly recommended.

I guess the Londoner Pub is on the corner of 33. I will start looking for Coyote north of that.

Probably more West than North. i.e. further towards lower Sukhumvit.

I've been out of town for a bit (2 years actually!) so I'm out of touch.  I always used to love Ana Garden on the corner of Thong Lor soi 3.  I went for dinner there with a group of friends once.  Somebody else's guest got so hammered she fell backwards off a chair and split her head open. :o   I didn't go back again out of shame and embarrassment! Is it still there?  Does it still do the best gai-phet-met-mamuang? (did I remember how to say that right?)  I know 24 months is a long time in restaurant-years!

Anybody go to Park 2 in Bang Na?  It always had such good grub and lovely, lovely atmosphere.

I'm moving back over next week - will be very excited to revisit old haunts and discover new ones.

I think these two have been mentioned before on another similar thread but:

The Good View and that place on the corner of Thong Lor 13 (the food is better at the latter, but you'd be hard pushed to beat the Good View for general ambience). The big outdoor place on the corner of Soi Ekamai (opposite the bus terminal) is also very good - great food, service, atmosphere, people, particularly on a Friday night. And it's open 24 hours...

I went to the Chang Mai Good View several Decembers ago. The food was delivered cold. But the staff were pleasant...

Granted, there are always good and bad nights at any restaurant so it's handy to hear a positive review (I'll now go back a second time to check them out...)
