Beautiful cars! It would have been nice if it were mentioned here BEFORE the event instead of after so that the riff-raff could have attended as well as the elite or, of it was invitation only which I imagine it was, we could have at least admired from a distance!
In fact it was announced in advance on Weah Radio by the DJs who told where the cars would be passing.
Quite a number of people went to Doi Tung, Maechan and the Chiangrai Clock Tower to see the cars.
But you are right, it would have been nice to have it included in the agenda of chiangraitourist .com too...
There's much excitement today in the village of Ban Sob Kham (just outside Chiang Saen) around a thousand people (g/f's estimate so could be a margin of error +/- 500!) turned up to help prepare for the visit tomorrow of HM the King's daughter (sorry, I don't know which one!) to Wat Phrathat Pah Ngao.
This is a very beautiful Wat anyway, and this event will make it even more worthy of a visit if you're in the area. There will be crowds!
In Chiang Rai, they will have the OTOP at the old airport 11 through 17 this month.

On the 19th July at Le Meridien, there is going to be an all-day seminar/presentation under the auspices of the ChiangRai Health authority. The aim appears to be to involve and inform 'long-stay foreign residents' about what the local health facilities provide.
The initiative is part of their broader remit to take care of all foreigners in the province - including refugees and immigrants, of which the majority come from neighbouring countries but may come from as far afield as North Korea.
The seminar is designed to inform foreign residents of the health services available in Chiang Rai and includes presentations from all the major hospitals and also some alternative health care hospitals. It is the first step in a process of being more inclusive in decision making and also providing a way of feeding back into the overseas community what services are available.
Additionally the province will also be introducing a new initiative to promote Health Tourism, which includes the renovation of Hot Springs, a Sunday Walking St, Homestay and more.

The 7th International Art festival was opened to the Public today at Mae Fah Luang Art and Cultural Park.
Running from today until the 15th August, it exhibits art works by a large number of international and Thai artists completed in the workshop period they attended here just before the exhibition opens.
It showcases works from artists from USA, Japan, Korea, South Africa,Sri lanka and many other countries, all of whom are invited to come and join in the experience here in CR. The art works are currently on display in the main display hall of the gardens. Entry today was free because it coincided with the celebration of the Princess Mother 's life that is held in the gardens each year - but it usually costs non- Thai 200 B to go into the park. It has some of the best manicured and laid out gardens here, mixed with traditional or reassembled Thai buildings, lovely lakes and a huge sala and is a must to see if you get the chance - never mind the added bonus of some wonderful art.
The gardens open until 16.30 each day.
P.S. It's not just pretty pictures of flowers - there's some great abstracts and a wide range of styles and subject matter on display.

For me it was more an event to see and meet the people involved than receiving valuable information. It that regard it succeeded. The menu was rather limited but it was OK and served the purpose. I probably learned something but can not recall specifically.

To a large extent. I would agree with you. It was an opportunity to see who's who, meet people who don't attend the 'usual' events and to get some information about the health services. Most of the imp. info was obtained during the networking we all did between the sessions.
What was really important, and the reason I would go along to something like this again, was that we (Non-Thai long stayers) were specifically catered for, invited, and great efforts had been made to make it as accessible to us as possible - the majority of the day was in English. Japanese, Koreans, Laotians, Chinese, Cambodians as well as people from European backgrounds attended. So it deserves a 'thank you' as far as I'm concerned.

Alright, relatively new to this world of Thai Visa forum-ing... so excuse me if I stumble upon any taboos/am posting information that is elsewhere/etc.
As many of you have likely noticed --- Chiangrai streets are strapped down with advertisements for the "Sankhong Happy Street" - there will be a walking street starting up this Sunday, August 7th, in Sankhong. This street is geared to be a cultural event for the four Sundays in August and will be continued if it is a success. Cultural tents, including Japan and China, will be doing cultural shows.
I am in the process of organizing a ten-foot tent titled "Western Impressions" and in search of musicians for the night of August, 7th (highlighting American music for that night in particular). Any harmonica or bluegrass music players out there? American folk and pop could also be acceptable, but might not fit the dress. Also any other "American" performance - swing dancing, square dancing, etc. are more than welcome! If so, please contact me directly (WARNING: There WILL be a "try out" of sorts before anyone is chosen to perform) or stop by the Prataap Jai Tea House (located in Sankhong about 100 meters down from Sa Bun Nga) and ask for "Amber"/"Nampeung"

This weekend, 19 and 20 November, at Doi Hua Mae Kham the annual Sunflower Festival
takes place again. Sometimes it is also called the Hill Tribe Culture Festival.
Food, shows, dances, you name it!
And all this in a very beautiful mountainous landscape close to the Burmese border.
GT-Rider has some good information about it.
It's about 100 km from Chiang Rai town: from Maechan a few kilometers to the north,
then to the left at the traffic lights in Ban Pasang, the road to Doi Mae Salong thus.
After ten kilometers, nor far from Katiliya Resort and Spa, you will see the beautiful
creation of architect and national artist acharn Chulathat Kitibutr at your left:
The Manee Dheva restaurant and spa.
A well-balanced eclectic mix of Lanna, Balinese and modern elements.
When you come at the 'saam-yek' about 12 kilometer before Doi Mae Salong you go straight
on to Hin Taek, the former stronghold of Khun Sa, now renamed into Therd (Thoedt) Thai.
I guess Ban Hua Mae Kham will be another 20 km after Hin Taek.
Saturday evening, roughly 6 to 9 pm, at Boomerang Park: get-together with music, drums, guitar, sing-a-long. Also campfire and snacks. It's planned to have get-togethers there weekly. all welcome, no fee.

Currently on show at the Black Village - until the 6th january - is an art exhibition of Thai artists works. Normally exhibited down in BKK (and sponsered by the Bangkok Bank Ltd.) the Bua Luang exhibition features approx. 45 works of art in mixed media, some of traditional styling, others very contemporary.
Worth a look see. Entrance to the exhibition is free and it is held inside the large 'banqueting' hall.
no get-together at Boomerang park this Saturday, as it's New Year's Eve. Planning on meeting again on subsequent Saturday evenings though. On the previous get-together, a minstral played a bunch of 60's and 70's oldies on the guitar - with sing-alongs. The Saturday before that, was mostly drum circle with two digureedoo (sp?) players. Plus some young Thai women danced traditional Thai dance around the campfire. On January 8th, we expect more drum circle players, along with more oldies sing-alongs, with or without harmonic back-up vocals.
It's only indirectly a community activity related to Chiang Rai, but worth to be mentioned:

The second price for participating clubs went to the gentlemen behind the wheel of the Ford Mustang
FR500 GT3, that was flying the flags of the Chao Phya Abhai Raja Siammanukulkij Foundation in
Mae Chan.
The Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 of Jeroen Bleekemolen, of the Team Black Falcon, was the winning
car with not less than 628 rounds.
For the Ford with chassis #002 is was the last race. After Dubai it gets its livery of the 24 hours of
Spa 2010 back (there the Mae Chan related text disappears) and it will be on display in the museum
of the Circuit of Francorchamps in Stavelot.
It was the seventh edition of the race and it had the strongest participation ever.
A great homage for this car in its last race! And an enormous performance of its pilots!

There is a lot of advertising going on at the moment for a music and cultural event to be held later this month. 23-26thFebruary.
The official website says that it will be held from 4pm onwards (presumably on each of these dates) and the aim is "to celebrate humanity in her myriad colors" on the 750th anniversary of CR.
It will feature, apparently, a mix of Thai, hill tribe, and international music and culture. It reports acts from USA, aboriginal Australian music, 'Afro-Aussie', Lahu, Punjabi, Hmong etc.
The venue is reported to be at "The circle of Culture" on the NamKok, 'on the way to the airport'................. Does anyone have any idea where exactly it will be held?????
