Does anyone know if it's possible to purchase a Kawasaki Ninja 250® in Thailand? I heard that they're now made in Thailand but they don't seem readily available. Are they strictly for export or are they also sold within Thailand? If you can buy them here, what do they cost and how can you get a hold of one?

It would be great to have another option with regard to small sports bikes. Th CBR 150 is a great little bike but I'm sure the Ninja 250 would be significantly quicker. I think these bikes can hit 150-60 fairly easily.

Also, why is it that 250cc (and other bigger bikes) are so rare in Los? I see people riding big bikes very occasionally but I've never seen any bike bigger than 200cc in any shop in my city. If bigger bikes are illegal then how are people getting them and why are they illegal in the first place?

Big bikes are legal, as long as they have accompanying registration papers, just like any other motorised vehicle.

Awesome, thanks very much. I guess I live in wrong part of the country for big bikes. The only 'big bike' shop stocks Platinum bikes

Hmm yesterday, I had the pleasure to touch a Platinum 200cc 2 cylinder inline twin motorcycle which to my surprise was brought in by the Bangkok City Administration. The bike was cataloged and seems to be for city patrol officers.

On first look it looked like a Honda Phantom, second look it was a bit bigger.... doing a test drive and it was surely not a lazy Phantom this Platinum knows how to kick with its 2 cylinder 200cc engine

You're not the only one Chris!
It's either big fat assed cruisers or small brand spanking sports bikes and then it just jumps up to big monster ones that would chew up and spit out some of us! :shock:
I've seen a bunch of 1000cc+ bikes all over a city and the next thing between them is a CBR 150!
I think next year a new honda sports bike is being launched and it's supposedly in the 250cc power range

I heard a farang on a forum say he got given a go on one by a police buddy of his.

His impression was that they would be capable of matching a CBR 150R in speed and acceleration.

The Boxer is a Cagiva copy from their old factory, I think. There was a thread about it somewhere a while ago I seem to remember.

Nice looking bike, I would like to test ride one to see what they go like, but would never buy a small bike like that, nothing wrong with small bikes, but at 6' and 100Kg I need something a little larger

Actually when you see the 250 Ninja in person, it looks like the size of a 600cc or general midsize bike. The only thing that really gives away that it is a small cc is the relatively skinny tires.

The Ninja is fairly impressive in person. They were manufactured for the past 8 years without a change in design so the old bike was very dated. One of the most popular sellers of all the bikes in the states, and a good reputation as a small 'starter' bike. And they are made in Thailand for export, so I do not know why they aren't readily available there (unless it is because Kawasaki doesn't have a problem selling them to the ROW).

Man... I've been in the Rama 9 Kawasaki showroom a few times now, and every time they say- "we'll be selling the Ninja 250 in a month or two"...
What the deal? The bikes are made right here in the LOS- how hard can it be to sell 'em here?!
I'm gonna go back again and leave 'em my business card so they can call me if/when the dam_n things are actually available.

You need to pre-order to get a Kawasaki 250R Ninja, it seems that the management of Kawasaki domestic sales is a bit of conservative person. All this new big bike stuff is too much for him, with years sales experience of selling 110, 125 and 130cc motorcycles it seems to be difficult to do anything else.

So in short go to Kawasaki Specialist Shop, say I want Kawasaki Ninja 250R, how much pay deposit and come back in little over 30 days. (not forget to request the right color)

Wifey just called Kawasaki on Rama 9 and they said that they couldn't give a price until after the motor show at the end of this month.
Wonder if that means it will be getting an official launch?

I really hope so, I'm working in Bangkok for the financial year end so I'm going to the Bangkok motor show while I'm up there, I'm hoping to see a new pickup from Toyota/Isuzu and a rival to the CBR150 from Yamaha, but I'd sacrafice both of these to see this 250 Ninja launched in Thailand - I'm having a terrible time finding a decent VFR400 or CBR400.

It has now been three months since RichardBKK's post said you could order one. And the management of the only shop in Thailand that seems able to deliver one, is in no mood to even deliver one? What does that tell you about dealer support in the other 75 provinces, or about spare parts?

It is no wonder that Honda does not improve the CBR150R. No competition, not even from Suzuki with their 150 scooter.
