The You Tube Thread

if you wanna get rid of that stupid block like the day when all ISP were blocking youtube, install a proxy to a friend's computer that uses another ISP.
i can recommend you ccproxy for the ease of use and being free for less than 10 users, that's the solution i'm currently using with a friend that has maxnet, i also need to mention that with TOT, you have to wait for the video to be loaded completly due to their low bandwith with the proxy now, the progress bar is going faster than the video... #177Posted 2008-06-20 09:52:57
1/ I'm thinking of closing my TOT Pattaya ADSL and switching over to TT&T MAXNET. Seems like users are satisfied and no blockage of youtube. I'd rather switch than fight (TOT)!
2/ BTW. Do we get an e-mail address (to use with Outlook or Mail) with a 1MPS TOT account? I've twice already asked at their office on Central Road but could get no useable info on that. The first time I was told to use a cybercafé if I wanted one! (I can use Hotmail from my own PC, thank you!) The second time I got a "SMTP.totisP.net" scribble but that's not enough for Outlook or Mail to set up an e-mail address! #178Posted 2008-06-20 21:46:35

............... Make 100% sure of that first, it might be out of the frying pan into the fire ? I have not been able to view any vids on youtube now for weeks ( pattaya TOT ) even the &fmt=18 does not work anymore. If youtube was derogatory to Thailand I could understand it but when we just want to look at some favorite old music vid's all this blocking is too much #179Posted 2008-06-23 15:29:41
Same supplier and same message here.

Same supplier and same message here. There are several ban systems now. On the thai ISP side, but also on the YouTube side (based on the location of the IP address of the viewer, etc). The issue is, allegedly, too sensitive. Google "youtube ban thailand 2008", you'll understand. Edited by cclub75, 2008-06-23 15:36:17. #182Posted 2008-06-28 20:18:40
I live in Samui and cannot access You Tube via my TOT Broadband link. Every video says 'no longer available'.
Any advice please? Sorry if this topic has been covered before, please send link. #183Posted 2008-06-29 15:56:57
Anyone else been able to get into youtube today? I fear the worst!
#184Posted 2008-06-29 15:58:32
It's working fine. in Bangkok.
#185Posted 2008-06-29 15:58:36
Working fine on Maxnet, what ISP are you with?

I can't get on for 2 days now, TOT. FOR ALL WHO HAVE TOT INTERNET, READ!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY GIRLFRIEND GOT ON THE PHONE WITH TOT YESTERDAY, AND AFTER 1 HOUR OF COMPLAINING ABOUT A YOUTUBE BLOCK, THEY FINALLY ADMITTED THAT THEY ARE IN COMPLIANCE WITH MICT (MINISTRY OF INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES) TO BLOCK YOUTUBE AND SEVERAL OTHER WEBSITES THAT THEY DEEM INNAPROPRIATE. SO, THERE YA HAVE IT. CENCORSHIP. ENJOY EVERYTHING ELSE!! Just been to the TOT office in Central ( Phuket) and was told the same thing after sitting for half an hour while being passed from one sales assistant to another. Finally it was explained that TOT is government owned hence the block. Time to move to TT&T !! #191Posted 2008-07-05 13:43:51
I wondered why I got this message on every video (embedded) I tried to watch. Then went to YouTube, which can be accessed with no problems. However, any video there also the same message. Using a proxy
server solves the problem. I can't imagine TOT is censoring YouTube because then the site would be inaccessible. Does YouTube, following the problems with Thailand, block certain IP numbers? This is discussed in another thread with the result that TOT is banning YouTube. I don't believe so. Edited by sniffdog, 2008-07-05 13:52:25. #192Posted 2008-07-05 14:16:03
Nope, it's just that YouTube is currently getting sued by everyone and anyone for copyrights infringement. Viacom just launched a huge lawsuit - if these kinds of lawsuits succeed it may take YouTube down for good.
Anyway, that's the reason YouTube is vigilantly removing all videos where copyrights may have been violated. I was trying to watch Euro highlights on YouTube and these were uploaded and zapped at amazing speed. I have seen the message even on harmless videos... too bad as it makes YouTube just so much less fun. #193Posted 2008-07-05 14:25:22
Many (most?) of the occurances of this message ARE related to blocking. I can view videos here in India that get the 'video removed' message in Thailand.
Obviously some of these messages are genuine, removed for copyright reasons. #194Posted 2008-07-05 20:51:40
Correct. This has nothing to do with copyright issues. As I said, it seems that YouTube blocks IP addresses. If you use a proxy server, you can watch them. I also tried videos of Soi 6 which of course are not copyrighted because they are made by tourists showing them to the world.

To keep the thread alive, let me say that I just signed up a week ago with TOT at a new apt in Pinklao, BKK, and ALL YouTube videos get the "not available" message, including ones I have put up. This tells me that YouTube is doing the banning, probably at TOT's request. Otherwise the web site itself would be blocked as are porno sites. YouTube (and Google) suck for capitulating to censorship. I'm going to find a proxy server.
#196Posted 2008-07-07 15:54:41
I'm getting the same "video not available" messages for pretty much all youtube content.
In addition, I can no longer use the Google "cached" button while searching (I always use the cached site as it highlights the words I'm searching for). Are the Google cache and youtube problems related? Also, could somebody please point me to the thread (or another source of information) that explains how to use a proxy? I can't find it here (or are we not allowed to talk about it?) Either way, if someone could PM me the info I'd appreciate it. #197Posted 2008-07-08 22:25:20
If I log onto youtube normaly then I just get the now famous sorry this video is no longer avalible.
If I use a proxy then I can view the video but only for about 30 seconds then it stops and goes back to the begining ? I can re start it again but only for the same 30 seconds, then back to the begining again, Anyone els getting this problem ? #198Posted 2008-07-09 20:15:43
Unable to access any video from youtube for the last couple months, in Koh Phangan, nor in Krabi now. Both connections from TOT.
It's an ISP block, not youtube's. #199Posted 2008-07-12 22:50:35
It's an ISP block, not youtube's. How does TOT block the video's without blocking the whole site? My friend has tot and watches youtube all day long in but I get the "no longer available". We both live in Chiang Mai. After not trying to watch for a month I just tried and Youtube worked. Then after watching videos for a few hours I started getting the message again. Now I always get the message. It's as if someone saw I was watching utube and then blocked me. I was just watching miscellaneous videos. #200Posted 2008-07-15 12:05:25
It could be a an application blocking youtube's scripts, installed on some TOT servers only... I dunno. There must be some kind of reason for our traffic going through 17 hops in the TOT network before leaving Thailand
...As only TOT users are affected, it shows that it's not youtube blocking Thai IPs. It's possible that youtube agreed to block TOT's users only. But then, TOT would provide youtube with their ranges of IPs, and all TOT users would be blocked. A server-running application on some TOT servers would be consistent with youtube going on and for you, with the same IP (I assume?) : that IP is not being blocked by youtube, so it must be a TOT server along the way. If your TOT routing changes then you can get youtube, it changes again and you lose the video script. It's a possibility. It'd be interesting for you to print a tracert report now, and another if you ever gain access to youtube again : by comparing them you might be able to identify the blocking server, if that's the case. |
