I have friends that are looking to stay here for an extended period and are unsure as to the best way forward other than back to back tourist visa's. They are from Belgium and do not wish to travel home to get a visa from there.

They are both 50+ but are not married as to do so would halve one of their pensions. They currently get approximately 3000 US dollars between them each month which does  not meet the 65k baht per person requirement.

If they were to form a company and one was issued with a WP could his partner get a non imm b issued purely on a shareholder basis? Is this even a good idea?

Any helpful advice appreciated.

First port of call should be the Thai embassy in Brussels to check their requirements for a non-immigrant class OA (retirement) visa, if they can swing multi-entry versions they're good for two years in Thailand. Each entry is stamped for 12 months and an entry just before the 'use by' date will net a further 12 month stay :o

EDIT Just re-read the OP, are they currently in Thailand?

Can they come up with the 800,000 Baht required for a retirement extension (with some creative bank transfers they could manage with only one lot) or at least enough to top-up their individual pensions (a quick and dirty calculation makes that about 280,000). If they offset their extensions by 6 months they could easily meet the 3 month 'seasoning' required of the bank deposit.

If they have savings of more than 800,000 baht each they can apply for a retirement visa.

Only after it has been in an account here for three months if using account only.  But they both have pensions so would not need to meet the rule if they can meet the pension/800k combined requirement.

It each has 30k per month pension they would each need about 440k in bank accounts under there respective names.

Otherwise it would appear use of tourist visas would be required.

they are in thailand currently

the visa they have expires in sept

they want to try and organise something more permanent than tourist visas back to back

they do not have 800k

the pensions total 3000 US$ which at 90 odd K baht is short of the 65k each - i will mention the fact that he amount can be a combination of the pension and a lump sum

thanks for the advice so far

Keep in mind that the pension and the bank account must equal 1 Million baht annually. Pension X 12 + bank account = 1 million.

Not true, the requirement is for pension and bank account balance to total Baht 800,000.
