If you open a bar in Isaan I believe the Thais would be the main customers , by aiming at farang customers you will be dramatically excuding the main source of income.
If You Know Isaan, Please Help Me!

A bar is the worst business in Thailand ( you really got to know what you are doing they are no walk in the park, they come and go on a daily basis, here in Udon, even with a heavy farang population) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I really think "ray" has a lot of good insight concerning the bar business (and maybe not just Thailand). Many have tried, few have succeeded. The initial post indicates to me that the poster has "no clue" as to what this kind of business entails. To me seems like a nightmare waiting to happen. Be careful. Find another way, think of something else. I couldn't begin to describe the many farong opened "karoke joints" that I pass around my almost daily motorcycle trips in Issan. They didn't make it and they are abandoned. But if you go for it, surely, good luck, you'll need it, but let us know where it is, 'cause I'd be happy to stop in for a few whenever I might be in the area. #28Posted 2004-11-21 20:17:47 chonabot, on 2004-11-14 04:32:27, said: If you open a bar in Isaan I believe the Thais would be the main customers , by aiming at farang customers you will be dramatically excuding the main source of income. you are absolutely right. if thais go out they tend to spend a lot of money (especially for food) not like the foreigners, one food and some drinks per person, that's all. if you open a restaurant for thais and the foreigners will come there regularly, you will loose most of your thai customers. #29Posted 2004-11-22 22:25:45
Isaan people love to eat
Self service all you can eat cook yourself buffet, late night music, happy days. Watch the law particularly fridays and mondays. Friday the girlfriends need money and clothes for the weekend, mondays wives need money for shopping and the kids........ Live thai...................make an educated decision...... stay away from the destinations. I have lived in a village in Issaan for a year, i have a new perspective on it all. Never employ a girl....... Isaan men are the hardest workers i have ever known, although there are some extreamly admirable ladies, the girls are very horny and do not quite provide the service unless they are working for beer chang and hoping for a marriage proposal or you are a extreamly attractive white skinned guy.........of thai origin You only get one life........... dont set yourself up for a fall... from a height that you cant get back up from. Good luck #30Posted 2004-12-10 03:01:30 chonabot, on 2004-11-06 17:29:27, said: I'm very familiar with Kalasin and the surrounding areas , those who say the people are poor etc are generalising BIG TIME. There are a LOT of peeps in the area that go on the piss every night and quite a few bars are heaving every evening. The big problem with Kalasin and KK these days are the Police. A Thai could run the place and only be expected to tip the police a few grand a month , as soon as a farang becomes attached , those rates would increase ten fold , whether or not the bar was successful. The posters above that ask whether or not farang are in Kalasin? This is redundant , the young Thais have enough dosh to make these places a potential goldmine , my wifes aunt runs a very succesful C and W style bar in Kalasin , the problem remains are the ###### police. I quite agree working for Motorola on the CP Orange (True) Project based in KKN their were some heavy weights based in Kalasin. A large number are Kings men. Who have been given land in retirement or somthing like that. However they still only want to pay Thai prices for the beer and food. Not much profit margin in that! #31Posted 2005-02-03 08:18:44 mfindlay, on 2004-12-10 03:01:30, said: chonabot, on 2004-11-06 17:29:27, said: I'm very familiar with Kalasin and the surrounding areas , those who say the people are poor etc are generalising BIG TIME.
