My wife and I live in Ekamai area and will be here until May 09. Is it worth it for us to buy bikes to get around? Normally the BTS is a 20 minute walk...would be quicker on a bike. Advice? Is it worth saving taxi fare? My wife and I earn about 110K Baht per month. We like to exercise, so biking is a natural choice. Traffic is also a concern. We are also looking for information on adventure races/marathons happening in Thailand while we are here...

There is a site called Thailand Marathon that has information on races (sorry, can't post links on this forum). If you want to buy a good bike, head for Probike in BKK, they have very good bikes.

I bicycled from Wongwienyai (Thonburi) to Sukhumvist (near Asoke intersection) for 3 years. Enjoyed every moment of it. Bicycled even when it was raining. Took a shower at the office (fortunately there was one that I could use). First two weeks was the scariest. When I got used to biking, it was a breeze.
Wasn't worried about traffic because cars were hardly moving anyway. Did bend my wheel once, the I went over a storm drain with grill that run parallel with the direction I was going. Better watch out for those. Best regards. |
