I have lately read through parts of a forum called Skyscrapercity.com to get a picture of what is going on in the real estate marked in Pattaya. This forum is to a large extent frequented by skyscraper-freaks. where the higher the better seems to be the mantra. Demolishing the Colosseum, The Acropolis and what not to get a skyscraper in place is true progress over there. Anyway, the forum is a wealth of information of high rise developments announced all over the world, including Thailand and Pattaya. I have collected links to the various high rises announced in Pattaya and it would be interesting to hear from better informed individuals what really became of these projects. Some I am quite sure never took off, some looks to be finishing/finished and some are in a state of limbo. Myself im not particlular keen on high rises. They belong in places like Manhattan and Bangkok, and I rather see as few as possible in a beach resort like Pattaya. Very contradictoray I have invested in a high rise myself (La Royale) and I have my reasons for that which I will not bore you with.

Anyway below is a list of links to projects coupled with my own comments. Hope you guys can fill in some more info. With the financial turmoil, rising development costs and oversupply, I guess there are more than one turkey that is never going to get off the ground. The list is long I know, but I did not even put in every project (to many View Talys to bother with them all). If everything goes through, Jomtien as we know it will be long gone and turned into an urban jungle. One good thing, there will be no more traffic accidents. The traffic jams will grind to a complete stand-still.

North Point Twin Tower 61+51 stories on Wong Amat : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=281212
This development I think is rising quickly and from what I hear has sold very well. Will probably finish quite on time

Holiday Inn Pattaya, 26 Storey : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=389882
No idea about this one, but I guess Hoilday Inn has financial musles to get this one done

The Beach Jomtien, Twin tower 62+52 Storey : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=456522
Developed by a Norwegian developer with a very dubious reputation in his home country. Seems like construction has stopped and only a bare concrete framework of two/three floors are standing.

The Lofts Southshore, 50+40 Storey Pratumnak: http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=515379
I dont know anything about this one

BAZIS, 55+40+30 Storey, Na Jomtien: http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=576191
If I am correct about the location, they have cleared the construction site and started setting up a show-room. Not much going on at the site now

Ocean ONE 91 Storey Jomtien: http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=339262
This one looks questionable. A very ambitious project but already years delayed. The construction site has been untouched for years and I guess this will never rise

View Talay Jomtien VII, 27 floors: http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=275268
Dont know anything about this, but as a lot of these monters sadly are standing already, I guess this one will be finished as well. Really sad. Where is Timothy McWeigh when you need him?

Central Festival Pattaya Beach+Hilton Hotel, 29+29 Storey : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=365601
Think this is close to finished, but not sure if both towers will come up or only one.

View Talay Jomtien IV, 26 Storey : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=174751
What more can I say? Another of these east block monsters. Guess it is finished...

THE VIEW panorama, 20 Storey Jomtien : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=581305
Developed by a Swedish developer. Web-site is gone and I think I read somewhere about a project like this that tricked a lot of Swedes out of their savings. My most sincere apologies if I have this mistaken.

Centara Grand Mirage, 20+20 Storey hotel : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=218832
I think this one is coming up as planned. Stayed at the Central Wong Amat before it was torn town to be replaced by this one. Rather strange design...

Le Royale Beach, 34 Storey Na Jomtien: http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=174749
After years of dealys and financial problems, the development is finally getting closed to finish. With the money coming in for the first finished units, they will most likely be able to finish the rest.

Prima Grand Pattaya, 60 Storey Jomtien : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=454894
I really think this one look quite weird. Did it ever launch?

Reflection, 58+49 Storey
They have knocked up a show room and some promotional boards. Nothing more I think. Targets the ultra high end, but I think they will struggle to sell enough units at the high prises. I dont think it has the best of chances.

The White Sand Beach Outside Pattya: 52+48+45 floors : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=522367
Developed by a company owned by the now bankrupt Lehman brothers. Very bad track record for that company with several failed projets. Would not hold my breath for this one. Very nice design.

The Sails outside Pattaya: 43+39 stories : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=239469
Developed by the same company behind White Sand Beach and stand as a miserable monument of a failed project. Would have been a pretty building though. Modeled on the same lest as Burj-al-Arab in Dubai.

Viewtalay Marina Beach, 30 Storey  Jomtien : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=426700
Another of these View Talay thingies. Are there no end to these sad projects? For all I know it might be finished. I cant keep them separated from each other. Seems to be everywhere.

The Ocean Portofino, 37 Na Jomtien : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=216894
This one is finished I think. Seems to be a quality project next to Jomtien yacht club. Quite pricey.

The Waterfront, 54 Storey Pattaya harbour : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=537049
This one looks rather odd, even ugly. Think it sticks out as a sore thumb even more than most of the other high rises. Think development has not started and hope it never will either

A.D Condominium, 33 Storey Wong Amat : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=584656
I know nothing about it. Looks more suited for a big metropolis than Wong Amat beach.

T.W.Pattaya Klang Condominium, 22 Storey: http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=265368
Know nothing about it. Probably finished ny now

T.W.Wong Amat Beach, 23+20 Storey  : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=275275
Same as previous. Know nothing. Look like a low-cost project

Lemon Tree, 22 Storey Pratumnak : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=537065
No info

The Seafront Jomtien, 43+43 Storey : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=495702
One of the most unusual designs I have seen. Not ugly, but it looks more like an experimental building than something that will be built.

The Cove, 18 Storey North Pattaya beach : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=474126
Yet another project I know nothing about

La Royal Maritime, 51 Storey Jomtien : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=474830
Yet another project I know nothing about

The Bellagio, 28 Storey Jomtien : http://www.skyscrape...ad.php?t=469368
Yet another project I know nothing about

Whew. What a long list. Got to take a nap now...

A terrific piece of research Wonderboy. Thank you and well done.

Here are  pictures of the Holiday Inn on the north end of beach road which is up over the 22nd floor and will complete soon judging from the workers on site each day and night.  The Amari Tower is now fully operational.

The first picture shows the completed Amari Tower with the Holiday Inn shell behind it taken July 08.

The middle pic  shows the Tower under construction in January 2006 and the cranes starting the foundations for the Holiday inn to the right.

The third shows the fast growing Holiday Inn from Soi One where a new low rise hotel has just opened. (It has already claimed its first suicide? from floor 4).  Windows are being fitted to the Holiday Inn now. In the picture they are about half way up.

There is still room for another tower or two and its a very popular location. Occupancy factors are always high.  It would make a very convenient location for another quality condo building.

Frankly, the article did not take so long to put together. Apart from my comments everything eles are copied from just one web-site.

"Myself im not particlular keen on high rises."
That's OK with us.

"Very contradictoray I have invested in a high rise myself (La Royale)..."
Very.

"and I have my reasons for that which I will not bore you with."
Thanks.

If you are trying to make a joke about Timothy McVeigh, you are way out of line.  Your enthusiasm for a coward that killed hundreds of people is beyond the pale, and I'm not sure why the moderators allow you to use TV to spread your own brand of hatred.

In the weekly newspaper you see never ending advertisements for new condos, but you never see any articles on condo projects that have failed! You only hear about these problems by word of mouth or on place like TV.

Reflections is already 1/2 sold AFAIK to Fraser Suites at the back, and the developer is Major Development; of all the proejcts listed only Ocean Marina would be considered a 'Thai' Property Developer and these two projects both tap into Thai customer base as well as foreign base.

For instance, fairly sure that even now the Ocean Marina project is not touching the foreign allocation; whereas Northpoint probably hit it at 50% of the project sold (49% allowed to be foreign owned).

I would put the chances as 90% that Reflections would be finished.

Not so sure about the rest.....

Nice site innit at Skyscrapercity.

Hmmm, nice friendly community here on TV. Seems you can not go much wrong before somebody tries to shoot you down. Lighten up please. Since you understood it was a joke, take it for what it was: a joke and nothing more. Sorry for not making you smile...

Thanks to the few who bothered to come up with some info on the orginal subject. Much appreciated.

"take it for what it was: a joke and nothing more."

I had no idea that terrorism was a joke from your perspective.
