Hi,

Anyone know where i can buy this or a compatible one to install in Toyota Hilux Vigo,
any where else other than Toyota service center/showroom? What's the price
and does it come with updated Thailand street map in English?

Any recommendation would be appreciated

That looks bloody expensive you can get GPS with the same maps from about 4,000baht at MBK. WITH review camera from about 10,000baht.

I would avoid an in dash unit. Everyone I know has had major problems updating their map.

As far as buying a decent GPS for 4,000 baht, I'd have to think that you wouldn't get much for that price. Just the ESRI Thailand map costs 7,000 baht.

my samsung omnia phone came complete with satnav installed, and a thailand map, and it sits nicely in my dash. GPS is a little slow to start finding the sats though, about 1 min.

Get a garmin unit and have the Thai maps (ESRI ones) put on it..

Most compatible, best mapping, and easiest to update.. In 2 or 3 years when theres something worth upgrading to upstick it from the window and do so.. In dash units in a country with less technology is a pain in the ass.. Just IMHO.

If you buy the ESRI map, the first update is free. They normally update once a year. I think after the first year it will cost you 1,200 baht to update. The latest version is 8.1. They do a pretty good job with the roads but the waypoints are NOT up to date. It's not a big deal because you can add your own waypoints and your GPS will remember and keep them.

Version 8.1 has the newest Bangkok bridge on the map. Earlier versions do NOT have the Kanchanaphisek Bridge. Outdated maps will still get you where you want to go but it may be a much longer route.

GaryA just because Esri overcharge for the Thailand map does not mean you can't get a decent GPS for 4,000 baht up ($133).
if ya look on the internet in the real world you will find them for this price. normally the non-garmin units use the i-go map platform same as MIOmap etc.
But yes the garmin/esri/rotweiller setup is probably slightly better but much more expensive.

Please look on the Internet and let us know what GPS unit and what map for Thailand can be purchased for 4,000 baht. Overcharge? I agree but when you have no competition, it puts you in a pretty good position. Google maps are free and can be used on some GPS phones but how good are they? I can assure you that they do not compare to an ESRI map and a Garmin GPS.

a Garmin GPS separately but i would really want an all-in-one unit that's compatible.

I would really like any information source available to get it.

GaryA I did not say 'including' a map of Thailand. but ok i will take the bait. there are currently 2 adverts on Mocyc.com one for 3,990 and the other for 4,900 both with i-go Thailand maps. if we look further then we can find many Garmin units on Ebay for around $100 and then you could download the map from Rotweiller for a nominal fee or other places the esri map free (as told to me by a friend who has done this)
then of course there is MBK where there are many retailers of low cost GPS units.

Klong Thom market near China town BKK. I bought myself one very similar to this apart from dials where on the bottom and not the top not that it matters, has Toyota logo on start up screen etc. and everything can be changed to English even the street maps i paid about 16,000 bht. (GPS) version comes with instructions in thai and english and a seperate book with all the info. on updating the map. There are other units there with GPS ranging from abt. 13,000 up all makes and models.. For other readers here who arnt interested in the GPS these can be picked up for 5000 up.

In Chaing Rai? I don't know. In Bangkok just park your car in any of the car audio shops, such as along Ratchadapisek up past Huway Kawangand they have some brand name stuff on sale in the 20-30kTHB range up if you want something looking good. The cheap all in one DVD, GPS's out of China for under 20kTHB look cheap imho.

Haven't bothered myself, if you look on the net as others have said you can get latest direction pointing maps like Garmin for nothing on p2p sites.

A couple of weeks ago l bought a Garmin 205W from one of TV sponsers Eagle GPS and it works great both in the car and as a mobile unit. It is removable from the car so l can use it if travelling in another vehiclle. Comes fully equipped with up to date maps of streets and roads in Thailand. It was on offer at 7900 baht and came with in car charger and home charger as well. There are cheaper version such as the Garmin 205 but this has a smaller screen. Good after service includes up dates once or twice a year. Highly recommended.
