I really love to buy this Yamaha its awsome !

An American review I read of the Megelli 250R didnt read so good.  Made in China and they said very flimsy fairings that had cracked even before the test ride, underpowered, compared to the Ninja, and quite a few other not so flattering remarks.

The Yamaha 125R is made in India. Available in Australia at a very competitive price to the Honda CBR125    (old 150 in thailand) Also Yamaha have a 150 R version of the same bike, but down on specs from the current CBR 150.

Yamaha have squeezed a 1 pot 250cc engine into the same frame, but I think revised suspension and rim size to suit.   Apparently almost due for release now.  But as Yamaha dont import the 125R into Thailand I cant see them bringing in the 250.  But hey I am not Yamaha so anything could happen.

The yammy is a very nice looking bike.

Yamaha are also entering the MotoGP3 class next season so development of a 250 1 potter could add more competition to that market.     I read also that Aprilla are developing a 4 stroke 250 to compete, so the global compitition for the road versions could be heating up nicely next year.......but probably not if u live in thailand!!

Kawasaki with their 2 pot 250 will become the oddball of the market. Although I saw somewhere they are doing a major upgrade to the 250 Ninja so maybe also coming out with a 250 single??? to compete.

The picture of the Yamaha YZF-R250 is in fact a picture of the Yamaha R15 (the 150cc currently sold in India and Australia)

Royal Enfield coming to LoS, anybody know the whereabouts and schedule for the BKK showroom opening party? They should have some warm beer and bad grub. Wouldn't want to miss it!

Suzuki is supposed to have a retro looking 250 cc coming out. Like the style even if I'm not too enthused about a Suzuki. Anybody heard about it.

Compete with what?  How is the 250 Ninja twin not competing with the Honda single?  The numerous tests I've read have been very even and the only thing that goes against the Ninja bar a genuine 2013 cosmetic spruce up is the price.

Funny market Thailand. Very few bike options compared to say Indonesia or Vietnam. I think its the herd mentality/fashion mentality here. I mean people don't choose what they really want; they just follow a fashion. I would love to buy the Yamaha vixion (Indonesia) here; I don't want a cbr. There is just so little choice. Sigh.

Completely agree with your sentiment.

I think if you look at this issue in detail, you will find the real reason is the deliberately protectionist tax and import duty regime. You will then have to look behind that and see the reasons for it.

I think it goes a lot deeper than just this. Why has the government had an interest in resticting the manufacturing of big bikes in Thailand? And (particularly) why do the manufacturers seem to be accepting of this, not complaining publicly, and not lobbying the government to allow them to manufacture bigger and more profitable models they've already developed and sell in other marketplaces? It was just recently that they even got it up to 250cc bikes being legal to make here. While there are protectionist duties and taxes on imports, don't think that it doesn't happen for domestic manufacturing too.

I bought a Mazda 2 a few years ago here. I later compared it to one in the USA. The closest match I could make showed that when accounting for foreign exchange, I paid around $4000 USD more for the same car made here in Thailand. In the USA, I would have gotten one that was slightly better equipped (with cruise control!,) made with expensive Japanese labor, and shipped across the Pacific to the USA, all for about $4,000 less. They tax cars manufactured in Thailand heavily before you even see the selling price at the dealer. I wouldn't be surprised at them doing that for bikes too (at least for the ones getting above 125cc.)

For those Ducatisti in Thailand, last night there was a big party at Ducati Thonglor for the unveiling of the new 2012 1199 Panigale, the heir to Ducati's illustrious production superbike racing heritage. The bike presented was in Ducati Red of course, and was surrounded onstage by Thai hotties in small black leather dresses working to match the bike's visuals, while an Italian exec made a few pronouncements. As I understand that they've sold over a thousand bikes in Thailand last year, Ducati must be more than pleased with their decision to open an assembly plant in Thailand to build Monsters, and an as-yet unannounced second model, for the Asia markets. The vibe was very laid back & celebratory with everyone very friendly and having fun. I didn't count, but scores of Ducatisti rode in for the event, their beautiful bikes lining the entryway.

The bike itself, is a show-stopper. With an aggressive, but taughtly integrated design with no elements out of place or tacked on to sate a marketing department, Gianandrea Fabbro's design clearly shows its 916/1098 lineage while sidestepping any visual references to the controversial-in-its-day 999 sibling. Like an athletic supermodel packing 195 horsepower, the Panigale beauty brings the highest power-to-weight ratio of any production machine.

Technology fairly bristles from around its smooth fairings with a monocoque frame, single sided swing-arm and under-slung exhaust pipe perfectly integrated into the lower right fairing. A nice bit of cleavage is the sexy aperture mid-fairing to flash a bit its massive exhaust pipe.

In all, a great party, some high-level bling & beauty in evidence. I can't wait for the roll out party for the still-secret Next Thailand-Assembled Model, coming in a few months!  Following are my iPhone pix of the event, the 1199, as well as two of the First Ducati, the Cucciolo - a bit of Ducati History and a very rare bike.

Mbike super motard 200 has arrived in Chiang Mai.  Nobody has mentioned this bike except a motorcycle related site, here in Thailand, that posts prices as well, and that article was 14 months ago.

Anyway, Mbike's brochure indicates that Sym, Sym of Taiwan (and many scooters) is a player.  Bike itself seems to be sound, disks fore and aft and nice cables, but of course nobody knows.  52,000 baht, all in.  A big shift from Ducati, but then Sym is not bankrupt.

Sorry, but i do not really understand. You are talking about the MBike Delta200? Sure its only 52,000Baht? That would be cheap! But why should Sym be bankrupt? And what has Ducati to do with Sym? Did i miss something? Thanks

Yes, it's that bike, though I didn't know it as a Delta.  Severally, three of us have confirmed the price - here and now, and speculated (given a posting saying that it was going to be 72K) about an introductory price - but came to no conclusions.  Clearly, given that 125 auto scooters are selling for more or much than 52 more nowadays, the Delta might well be a good price.

I referred to Dukati only because the earlier contribution (#61) was all about Dukati.  My my remark was meant to take notice of it while radically changing gears, but I added (failed again, it seems) an attempt at humor - they have nothing to do with each other, particularly as Dukati is looking for a financial saviour.

Sorry about my xrossed wires.

OK, thanks for reply. I wasn't expecting humor here in this serious thread Posted Image

I always thought the MBike Delta Motard would be around 70,000 Baht. For 52k maybe someone here wants to buy it and tells us how it is? Posted Image

Here a picture of this cheap little motard bike:

If one drives in toward town (Keow Narawat, extends from 118) from the superhighway, it is just past the Bus Station, almost immediately on the left.  Last I was there, it had large "Sym" display hanging above.

Thanks, CMX. I'm not really thinking of buying one but I'm curious to drop by & see the Sym bikes in the flesh, as it were.

that be this one. A friend went for a trip on his CBR150i and one of the other bikes was the Sym 300; he said it went very well, even in the steeper bits. It also had nice protection from the wind.

I saw it at the BKK Motor Show - it was pretty homely/cheap looking, to my eye. but with some aluminum bits, paint, stickers, proper suspension and a hack saw to the tail light booger, and it could maybe be made to sing.

Back in Oz for a short holiday.  Called in to my friendly Yamaha/Husqvarna dealer to say "Gidday mate" and 5 minutes later I am doing a demo ride on a Nuda 900!  The new Nuda 900R looks way better to me with the Red/White/Black paint scheme, but the test bike was a Nuda 900.  Spec's pretty close for both.  A 10km ride on wet and sometimes slippery roads isn't the best.....but for me it felt good to ride, sharp handling and in the wet road setting plenty of power.  Here the Nuda 900 is Au$13,995 and the the R is $15,995.

Do we have a Husky bike dealer in LOS?
