For my last Visa run from Thailand to Cambodia-Koh Kong border I changed Dollars.
I read to be firm with the 20 Dollars visa fee,
so, I just put the 20 Dollars with the foto and application in the Passport and handed it over to the ladyofficer.
She said, 1.200 B, I said, can I have a receipt for that 1.200 B?
Now I had to wait for some time.
It was nearly 6:30 PM, it was my first time at that border, I was never in Koh Kong,
had to look for a Hotel and that border closed at 8 PM.
If they let me wait, close the border and I had to stay in the no mens land between the checkpoints?
The Thais will not let me back either without a Cambodian stamp in my Passport.
Than, I was called inside the office, the officer in charge lamented about a one day Thai overstay in my Passport, (No good) and ment why I, with all my Lao Visaruns in my Passport not better went there again.
I must not come to Cambodia he ment, looked like I do not like Cambodia.
I took 1.200 B. out of my pocket and changed it for the 20 Dollars.
No, no replied the officer, now I have to hear what him have to say and why he wanted 1.200 B.
What he said was, because he had to go to change the Dollars in Thai B. again later and that is expensive. ?
I said, please let me go before complete darkness and he handed me back 200 B.
Because it seems I have only little money, he said.
I do not think, I will follow a -be firm- advise next time, not at border closing time!

Give the person here some credit please , he/she is employed to do a specific job for low wages that barely puts fuel in the moto to come to the job and put food on the table for the family . Math is far from the best subject studied , doing sums correctly adds up to one very basic fact ' There has to be something in this for me or I have to do it all over again ' . So what part of the equation did you not understand ? :o

Walk straight to the immigration window, ignoring all offers for assistance and let the 'handler' by the window there deal with the transaction. 1,200B and a tip for him and the job is done in 5 minutes.

Argue the toss and it could take hours.

At no point on that border crossing do you have complete control over the proceedings.

Or get an E visa.

This is your way to resolve your problem.Up to you,of course.
Don't arrive pressed for time,if they are difficult,do a little walk around, chat with the many people loitering there,(don't need to buy anything), then come back again, the friendly officer will understand and, cursing in Khmer, accept the 20$.Another way to reach the same goal. :o

Good possible, that I go to the same Cambodian Koh Kong Immigration again in 2 weeks.
If I take and come with an e-visa, I would not be surprised if they are so pissed off from my e-visa,
that they are not accepting it and I just have to double pay.
So I will have a look at this e-visa in the net, but a good chance that I stay with the advise from -Kamalalove-
and pay what they ask, but I make-fill out everything myself without the helpers there.

-Neverdie- Problem on the Border?
That was a different thing, I overstayed during the Airportcrisis, but I start my overstay. 3-4 days before that crisis and the borderofficer in Nong Khai
did not except one day of my than much longer overstay, sent me to an airport to clear things up.
With him I had to pay full!
