Published: 4/02/2009 at 07:57 PM Consumer protection activists on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the Civil Court against ousted social development and human security minister Witoon Nambutr and other defendants, demanding one million baht compensation. The activists are led by Saree Ongsomwang of the Foundation for Consumers and representatives of Phatthalung consumer groups. Others named as the defendants in the lawsuit include the Social Development and Human Security permanent secretary Wallop Ploytubtim, executives of the manufacturer of Chao Doy canned fish, Thong Kingkaew Food Co, and executives of the canned fish distributor, Thai AD Foods Co. #2Posted 2009-02-05 06:10:28
This kind of thing is to be expected. The only thing that surprises me here is that they weren't paid off before making the complaint with the court.

Come on it was just an accident. The tin was from a batch being sent to Sweden where tinned rotten fish is a delicacy.
as demonstrated by this video #4Posted 2009-02-05 18:51:54
G'day Hazz, I think those lads in the video are having us on. It couldn't be that bad...could it?

I am afraid that its true, Sweden, Norway and Finland have a frightening assortment of fish delicacies no sane person would think of easting, including fish preserved in caustic soda!
I cannot vouch for the taste but I can for the smell; In my youth I used a tin of this stuff as a IED on some Jehovah's witnesses that kept coming to our house. Still feel a little guilty; it never occurred to me that anything could smell that bad. #7Posted 2009-02-05 21:27:10
The fish doesn't taste much and not bad at all...the smell however...

Something smells very 'fishy' about this court action.

This government lead by Abhisit gave out rotten canned fish Chao Doy to flood victims in Phatthalung. How clean! That was after this party said other parties corrupt. This story was told in Dec last year. So fast. They just got into government seats and started to do such a thing.
So bad Witoon Nambutr resigned. I wanted him to stay so Jatuporn could question him more.

Food and Drug Administration secretary-general Pipat Yingseree said Thong Kingkaew Food closed its factory in August for renovations but the product labels showed the fish was canned on Dec 24.
Dr Pipat said the manufacturing process could be substandard because the fish had gone off well before the expiry date of Dec 24, 2011 given on the labels. http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/politics/1...tten-fish-firms #15Posted 2009-03-13 22:43:32
"Saree Ongsomwang of the Foundation for Consumers"
One must wonder who this fellow is and represents behind the facade of a good name Suing the dissembling fish factory is a no brainer and the obvious target, but going so far up the government food chain, smacks of political machinations more than just consumer support. If you look at this foundation's books you can bet there is a probably a PTP connection sliming about. #16Posted 2009-03-14 20:38:55
I'll amend this last.
Ms. Saree does seem to be a sincere crusader for consumers. And seemed to be working with the current government on several levels to get things done. But the general direction of this attack, does make one wonder if 'extra significant recent funding' came into foundation to a prompt a more targeted attack over this tainted emergency fish issue. #17Posted 2009-03-14 20:50:18
Animatic, are you implying that the present administration is, or should be untouchable? Who cares who is footing the bill, if a Government minister is somehow involved in this stinking act of corruption (and I'm not saying that IS the case, that's for the Courts to determine) why shouldn't they be brought to account?
Once again, we have a distinct sense of double standards - if Thaksin had even been suspected of a similar scandal, you would be the first to scream for his public execution! #18Posted 2009-03-14 22:16:37
You are implying that I mean that by asking the question.
Of course they are not untouchable. But this seems MUCH more a political shot than going after the business weasel that sold bad goods to be used like this. Come on, we KNOW how many idiots will do anything to make a buck here, and we know many think the government, ANY government, is a perfect target. I am only saying that her foundation appeared to never aim that high previously, in the googled things I looked at, was playing nice with the powers that be currently for her own ends, and that this sudden stab at the top seems a bit misplaced in comparison to her past motus operandi. Thinking TIT... money makes things happen, maybe she is being manipulated, for a nice chuck of scratch. Justified to make her ends meet better. Or favors down the line... one never knows do one? We have seen Abhisit jetison one cabinet member early and fast. That may be a good sign for general attitude. No. I would not be the first to call for Thaksin's public execution. Not hardly. I don't hate the man, I just don't want his return to the levers of power. But If he fingers were in the pie I wouldn't be against his PROSECUTION. Big difference. I will be interested to see how this Shincorp tax snitch murder in Chaing Rai plays out. Hhhhmm. Most likely some fool trying to protect the boss, then not getting the pay day and protection he expected, and won't fall on his sword as expected. Edited by animatic, 2009-03-14 22:22:47. |
