Villa Market In Phuket

Good to see Villa have stopped music inside but still have speakers on their outside walls playing alongside the beer garden music. yesterday I strolled around the rest of the complex & some stall holder was blaring loud music. What is it with the mindset that believes in the value of loud music or any kind of loud noise to attract more custom?

I like to think you miss my point. I am perfectly happy to pay 20% over the odfds for an avocado to the extent that Villa provides these products at any price, when elsewhere they are not available. Now if villa believes its wasting money and space providing walnut oil that is fine (apart from the fact they tell me every 3 days it is on the way from Bangkok). But then again if they are not prepared to sell specialiaty products which on an individual basis may make them little money, while not simply send the maid off to buy everything from Lotus. (Incidentally the oil issue was resolved by a PM from a TV member who correctly pointed out that both products could be bought from (maybe slightly wrong names - farang foods Paradise - which is 300m from Lotus.)
I like to think their business model is based on two factors (1) providing very high quality product and (2) providing the widest selection of product not because each product in itself must necessarily be that profitable but because the wide selection is a service that people are prepared to pay for. Incidentally, Gerd, I think you are responsible for much of the imported meat there. I have tried them several times and despite an inherent loyalty to 'Choice Foods' your meat is clearly far superior (by a considerable margin) in terms of both quality and choice to a say Tops/Lotus offering. Incidentally before questioning why Villa should sell truffle oil and walnut oil. a much better question is why they feel the need to offer as many as 20 different olive oils.

Just met with the VILLA owner this morning:
He's planning to open a restaurant corner inside the market in the future and the question is now what kind of food would you like. My ideas: -All day breakfast -Continental breakfast -Good and basic Thai food -A good coffee -Freshly prepared sandwiches Some more input from you please! Gerd #232Posted 2009-05-10 10:58:59
Agree with your selection and would say.. Keep the options simple but good quality..
Make it the best coffee.. Have the staff REALLY trained in pulling an excellent shot.. Its not hard to do but so many places I go to (why do I bother with starbucks) its some bitter half assed attempt. A well done espresso makes me stop every time I am passing. #233Posted 2009-05-10 11:23:23

Mainly used in cooking, unlike the whipping or pouring cream. Double cream would be good to get, as well as creme fraiche. #234Posted 2009-05-10 11:29:49

Spaghetti that taste good, doesnt need to be a huge serving.. Just homemade meat sauce is well worth 120 baht for a decent plate.
Same for lasagna. I would definately eat there after shopping if they had some good, quick and cheap pasta #236Posted 2009-05-10 11:37:28

Hi Gerd, can I ask your affiliation with Villa? I saw you advertise for staff and you seem to be involved somehow. Part owner? Shareholder? I am working for a food importing company and we have different counters/displays in the Villa Market. Someone else from our company is in charge for the Villa operations, not me!!! But of course when I am in the area I have a look what's going on there. Gerd #239Posted 2009-05-10 13:25:56

SOME DR.PEPPERS AT THE RESTAURANT
ive gone to villa 5times now spending over 4000baht each time and every time i leave angry because theres no dr.peppers. Maybe a limit of 1-2 cans per person? theres definately an asshol_e taking all the cans #241Posted 2009-05-10 14:47:31
Oh dear, no Dr. Peppers?
As a good substitute, go to your nearest dentist and buy some of the mouth-wash they use, mix with water and aerate with an CO2 cartridge. Voila! Home made Dr. Peppers. #242Posted 2009-05-10 14:49:01
I managed to get 3 dr peppers, one on the shelf and two in the refrigerated section. I wonder why more isn't ordered if they see these are selling? Hmmmm

I have informed the owner about the complains from the Phuket customers! Gerd Same problem with me when I had a coffee outside in front of the DJ I live in Rawai but work in Angola 28/28 I bought a good selection of Meat Veal Cops,Lamb Chops, Striploin etc Froze it and took it with me to Angola. Excellent still frozen by the time I got here. Its great to see High Quality Meat and it makes my 28 days in West Africa pass that much better knowing that I am going to have a treat at the weekends. Bread Counter not so good though and why do Heinz Beans and the Scottish Favourite Soft Drink Irn Bru sell out as quickly as they are put on the shelves with no replacement. Would like to see Lorne Sausage (Sausage Slices) great in a Bread Roll (From Dons) Lurpack Butter & HP Sauce. All in all a great new shopping experience and not as far to go as Tops or Carrefour. Keep up the Good work will be back for my African Supplies again middle of June. #244Posted 2009-05-12 01:24:57
...why do Heinz Beans and the Scottish Favourite Soft Drink Irn Bru sell out as quickly as they are put on the shelves with no replacement...
.... i leave angry because theres no dr.peppers... Sorry. I was day dreaming for a while there. It's not only Villa - every supermarket I know runs out of popular stuff and never seems to order more, even when this happens week after week, month after month. Someone suggested that suppliers of the other products (that they never seem to run out of) actually pay for shelf space #245Posted 2009-05-12 08:44:52
Well I went back on the weekend and there is still that gawdawful music blaring out. Who do think they are benefiting? Does anyone really like this noise?

Do you mean inside the supermarket as well as outside? If inside then we all should complain to the management. I am not against quiet, relaxing, background music & if done correctly I believe it can induce shoppers to buy more but this appears to be an unknown concept here. #247Posted 2009-05-12 09:15:14

It was mostly outside but the muzak inside was played too loud as well probably to try and drown out the two sources of outside noise. Therein lies the problem - everyone trying to drown out each other with noise so that in the end it is just an unpleasant experience. #248Posted 2009-05-12 11:49:25
hmm the music was pretty low each time i went. It was awful though.
#249Posted 2009-05-12 12:55:28
I was there last night, about 6:30.
They had a young man singing by the beer stands between Villa and Homepro. It was quite loud. But inside the supermarket, quiet. I am just happy I got my junk food at Villa. Did not see any Dr. Pepper, though. #250Posted 2009-05-12 14:09:29
We were shopping on Sunday and while the noise outside was loud, I heard nothing inside the store. Thai Gerd introduced me to the Villa owner, and I had a word with him about the music, he understood the concern and had dealt with it.
Seems to me that some of the original prices have been reduced. I noticed that the brand of whiskey I buy is now the same as Carrefour, so I now buy at Villa ... |
