I heard from my army friend that the Reds would go underground, this will lead to the Yellows doing the same, so we will end up with an underground civil war in the heart of BKK akin the problems down south. My heart bleeds for the normal people of Thailand who want a normal harrasment free life. Its so different here than 10 years ago when I first came, its kind of depressing.

the red shirts AND the yellow shirts are destroying our country. Justice for all, means punishment for all...ALL the red/yellow criminals need to be arrested and jailed for their crimes against Thailand.
Only then will our PM gain the respect of the silent majority of good Thai citizens. #54Posted 2009-04-17 10:27:41
Bangkok Post http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/1408...hi-shot-wounded Quote Mr Sondhi sustained injuries to his head as a piece of metal penetrated through his right skull, causing bleeding in his brain, according to director of Vajira Hospital Dr Wanchai Charoenchokethawee. "Doctors are performing operation, which is expected to be completed around noon," Dr Wanchai said, adding that there are no injuries to his body. Seems like this may be more serious than first reported. This reads a lot worse than was first reported. In the usual Thai way to me it says he was shot in the head. Or just maybe they are spinning it out for as much as they can get. Wife told that ASTV told that it is not sure if he'll survive #55Posted 2009-04-17 10:29:43

Sondhi is in serious condition : doctor
Sondhi Limthongkul is in serious condition after being shot as a bullet hit his left skull. The bullet is still in his skull, causing bleeding inside his brain, Vajira Hospital Director Dr Chaiwun Charoenchoktavee said Friday. Doctors are conducting an urgent operation on Sondhi and the operation is expected to finish around noon. Sondhi, a core leader of yellow shirts, known also as People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), who seized Bankok airports late last year, has no wounds on his body. His driver, Vayupak Mussi, was also seriously wounded from the attack. Doctors said later that he survived and was now in stable condition. Meanwhile PAD's spokesman Parnthep Pualpongpan said at least two attackers riding on a pickup blocked Sondhi's vehicle who was on Samsen Road, heading to Manager newspaper office in Banglampoo area early Friday morning. The attackers then shot four tyres of Sondhi's vehicle before stepping out of their car and sprayed more bullets on the car. The attack lasted about five minutes and the attackers went back to their pickup which sped away along Tevet Road. Police who rushed to the scene found Sondhi's car riddled with bullets and they could collect more than cartridges of AK-16 and rifles from the scene. Parnthep said Sondhi was informed of reports that he could possible a target of attack, but he simply ignored the warnings. - THE NATION - #57Posted 2009-04-17 10:30:53
Perhaps Thailand is just trying to catch up with the US, in terms of insane gun violence. Please note that according to the Nation he had a bullet in the head....Check above link!! #58Posted 2009-04-17 10:31:11

Well, I guess every soldier/weapon expert can confirm you will be certainly dead after receiving a 100 round shower from an AK-47... Could that incident have been stage-managed? Not uncommon here in Thailand. I remember some cases with the dear leader involved years ago... Very plausible. The fact that 100 rounds from automatic weapons(at close range)and failed to kill anyone. Suspicious. Or could the intention had been to intimidate not kill? Yes its very unlikely that unless the car was bulletproofed anyone could have survived such an onslaught. Or Sondhi could have just been dam_n lucky. Another strike in the coffin for Thailand. #60Posted 2009-04-17 10:33:15

AK-47s are not that rare but M16s as used by the armed forces would be harder to come by. AK-47 were produced in Zillions and I guess they are easily available in Cambodia/Myanmar. Even in Croatia (or was it Serbia) after the war the price was approx 900 Baht (most probably for an old wear out chinese edition) (offer was that time 300 Austrian Schilling). But M16s are not around every corner. #63Posted 2009-04-17 10:37:46
Checked some Thai and English web sites here in TH. Nothing mentioned about (yet) Lets hope it was only propaganda! #64Posted 2009-04-17 10:38:23

TOC News: http://www.thailandoutlook.tv/ An unknown number of assailants fired more than 100 shots at media mogul Sondhi Limthongkul's car this morning. And he was only slightly injured? If I were the assassin's hirers, I would ask for my money back and hire some Russians to do the job. TIT. #69Posted 2009-04-17 10:44:06
Someone may be angry because of the Airport closure a few months back.
#70Posted 2009-04-17 10:44:50
If they used M-16's, doesnt suprise me that he survived. 5.56 doesnt have that much penetrating power. AK-47 is a different story but there have been conflicting reports by the media. Remembering that this was early morning in poor light with a moving vehicle so im sure a vast majority of rounds missed.

The owner from a hotel in Hua Hin got shot a little while back (also Thai), they pulled up with a motorbike next to his car and just unloaded a clip on him. Maybe he's lucky because they didn't use a pistol... my guess is, they haven't had experience with the big guns and couldn't aim well. As much as I know he got hit on the head and shoulder, so he was quite lucky not to get killed. Maybe they thought his car might have bullet proof windows and they needed bigger equipment... Anyways, I am happy he is still alive. Hope they catch the shooters and find out who hired them. One question, what about the guys they arrested that were planning to shoot that guy working for the privy council, have they found out who hired them yet? #73Posted 2009-04-17 10:53:16
"when will you guys realise.."
"when will you people learn.." "when will all of you understand.." The most unhelpful set of phrases. Edited by OxfordWill, 2009-04-17 10:54:06. #74Posted 2009-04-17 10:55:01
My sincere wishes for a full recovery to the driver and Sondhi. Quite incredible to think that with a hundred bullets, they managed to miss a mouth that big!
