Do alot of people actually go to Surin other than to visit their Thai GF/Wife's home?
I was there in Dec-Jan (actually at her village 60km from Surin). We went to Surin a few times, only saw about 5 other farangs the whole time we were there. Mostly at the KFC or bus stop.
Tourism To Surinalot?

Surin is one of the more up-and-coming towns of Thailand with more and more falangs moving in all the time. Listed on my site at the mo are 17 hotels, with about three or four new ones to go on. Surin is definately not a back-woods town any more. A large lighted sign now adorns the main x-roads in town with' Welcome to Surin. The Organic farming center of Thailand & Gateway to Indo-china' In fact when the new 'super highway' connecting Surin to Ankar Wat is built then whoever has invested a fortune in Surin might have a return for his money. And to anyone who has not visited our town. Come along and be pleasantly surprised. #4Posted 2005-02-01 15:07:11
maybe at the "chang-festival" mid-november, if you like it really busy?!
anyawy, food at the farang connection is about the best (non-thai) you can get in the area, and if you are lazy to go to pattaya or bangkok for farang-food-shopping, fill your fridge here too! #5Posted 2005-02-01 15:19:43
Up until a year ago, I used to go up to a small village not far from Nang Rong, in Buriram province. Used to spend a week or two at a time there with my ex on the farm.
As a result, visited Surin on a couple of occasions. The thing that struck me last time in Buriram province were the number of farangs who'd paired up with a Thai girl and built a house for her/them in the village. No longer was I the only farang there. I was surrounded my 4-wheel drives and fancy houses. Ok, a bit of an exaggeration, but the trend is there. (BTW, a good proportion of the girls were originally employed by us). Buriram and Surin are definitely good places to visit, although I couldn't see myself living there. However, I'll try the restaurants mentioned in Surin next time I'm up. #6Posted 2005-02-01 15:44:53 sua yai, on 2005-02-01 15:19:43, said: Up until a year ago, I used to go up to a small village not far from Nang Rong, in Buriram province. I knew there were some that went there but no that many...i have seen the farang connection website and wish i had known about it when i was there in Dec. I see you have an internet cafe there at the connection, do they have webcams? My wife will be going to work in Surin and we like to chat online as it saves money for phone calls. Does anyone know of a good internet shop with webcam in Surin?
