Can anyone help, I have been looking for an old car Veteran/Vintage or even a commercial vehicle, if I cannot find anything I would have to settle for something a little newer, perhaps a 50s or 60s car or commercial; thanks for any help.

There are such cars about, but they are difficult to find. Veteran almost impossible, vintage difficult, 60's period there are such cars about.


I can check, I know where there is an MGA.

Bear in mind, you have to pay much more than you would in the UK for such a car. How much do you want to spend?

I don't actually have a lot of ideas about the prices of these cars here, it really depends on how much I want a particular vehicle
as money is not the deciding factor, I would prefer a saloon but am prepared to consider anythingI appreciate if you could get more info on the MGA, yr etc; 1600cc or twin cam whatever, cheers Wacky.

For the types of cars you're looking for you might want to consider buying something from a member of the Thailand Classic Car Club.

I have to say the pictures are great especially as there were a lot of british cars on show and several that I have owned in my younger days including motorbikes and that Goldie looked great, couldn't tell if it was a B32 or B34 second bike I owned first bike was a 350cc Bullet then the BSA, I will look them up and cheers for your input, Wacky.

Actually, there are lots of classic and vintage owners here in Thailand, including myself.  It depends on your particular bent, whether it be euro cars, brit cars, or American cars, but there is a strong movement here, though, albeit, not apparent on the surface.

And in terms of classic bikes, lots and lots of enthusiasts.

Actually, there are lots of classic and vintage owners here in Thailand, including myself. It depends on your particular bent, whether it be euro cars, brit cars, or American cars, but there is a strong movement here, though, albeit, not apparent on the surface.

I was just about to see if they have a website when I got your reply, where do they operate from in the way of a club secretary and what vehicle do you run, does the club cater/include commercial stuff, what about meetings anything there?.

Not long ago on the Classified here there was a 1971 Triumph 2500, started at 200k last figure was 50,000 baht......

Around where I live there appears to be lots on the road, at least 7 1950's American, seen in BKK 2 1950's RR, and next to my friends house there is a 346 Armstrong Siddeley
As for a little newer then 2 Ford Capri's see often, 2 Volvo Amazons, lots of Mk1 VW bus/campers, at least 6 early Minis, a nice Rover 2200 TC, lots of early BMW's, a Austin A30 and a Van, Hillman Minx, a beautiful dark blue NSU RO80, a number of 144 & 164 Volvo's

There used to be a place between Bang Yai and Nontaburi that sold old cars of all makes he had at least 300 cars for sale, road got widened and understand he has moved to somewhere in Bang Na

I think we can have some interesting conversations, like you I have owned many bikes, in fact so many I cannot count, mostly British and most makes, Norton, Velocette, Royal Enfields, Ariels, etc, etc, probably an example of every marque, even owned a Vincent Rapide, worth a small fortune now.

There are several english classic cars around. I saw a very nice Triumph Spitfire on one@car.com. Of corse most of this cars don't have the original engine anymore. Prices for a nice convertible in good shape, from 500 and up k's It's depend on the condition. Buying a project could be end up more expensive. Auto exchange at Pattaya have also some english clasics for sale. I saw also some MGB for around 500'k for sale, i think it was in Baht and sold, but i'm not sure if  the car stil there. In Ratchada in BKK was a Lotus Europe for about 1 Mill. Cars like this are much more expensive than in Europe or US.

If you want to see photos on the websites you will have to register but it is free to join all these sites. Some are in Thai.  Below is an example. It is a 1969 Jaguar 420G Saloon. Very rare car. Asking 900,00 full restored.

Cheers Rdrokit, thats a very nice looking Jag, if I cannot find what I'm looking for then I may have to settle for something a bit newer, preferably British { I know my way around the cars} probably something mid fifties to late sixties, eg, 1500 Riley or the Wolsey version but I do like the old BMC vehicles.

In England I have a 1985 TV6 Alfa one owner {me} with a genuine 423miles from new { yes thats correct 423 miles} and the book price is about 6,000 pounds, I also have a 1948/9  2 litre Rover P3  75 very low genuine miles again {documented} 29,327 I am the 3rd owner, book price maybe 8,000 pounds but there is no way I would ever sell them, would love to get them over here though.

I remember meeting a french bussines man in Paris about 15 yers ago

Took me for lunch. We got into his jag which was almost sandwiched between two parked cars Normal Paris parking.
He stuck it in Drive and pushed the car parked in front about 50 Cm Then he selected Rev and did the same with the car to his rear,
As he pulled out into the traffic he patted the dash and said "Good Strong British Car"
My thought was yes thats true.  "Wee" It's a tank in disugise.

Stingray, I called that dealer in BKK on that yellow Spitfire. Offered him 500k sight unseen. He countered with 700k and said that the same car in UK was about 1.3million. I actually took the trouble to send him links to the best Spitfire on US Ebay and UK Ebay - and they were show winners with low mileage, all original for about 400-500k. Tried to explain that if it was all original, I would pay more...but he didn't quite get that logic.

A quick look on Ebay shows perfect original Spitfires for 350k, down to good cars for 100 - 150k (and I rank this one as average) and projects for 50k.

I don't mind paying over the odds on a decent car, but I struggle at downright stupid prices for a hacked classic.

Glad he declined the sale as in hindsight, it wasn't even worth paying 500k for it. Love Spitfires and have owned 2, but not that much.

Nice car, but the gearstick doesn't match. Hope they not replaced the original engine with a ratteling underpowered Nissan Diesel LD 28

I know, i know, car has Japanese engine. I never saw the car in real, only on the web.
Prices are very high overhere, in one way i understand the guy, as he can't find anotherone anymore, if he sells this one and imports aren't possible. Therefore he keeps the price. In another way i understand you, do not pay that high price. I had the same situation. I saw a 1980 Corvette at Autoexchange in Pattaya. I still have the same car in Switzerland and bought it in 18 years ago for 28'000 Swiss Franks in perfect condition, wich is approx. 24'000 USD. Autoexchange want 4.5 Million Baht on the day when i asked them. After a while a friend of me went there and asked for the price of this Corvette again and they told him 2.5 Million. Still to high and over my budged. I my self can't make up my mind to pay such a high amount of money. In the states is approx. 10'00 USD or lets say max 15 grand for a excellent one. The same situation i feeled. So i downsized my self and bought 2 oldsmobile, instead of one corvette, for a thirth of the price as they told my friend for that corvette.

This Jag is original apart from the gear knob and that awful steering wheel. I think the manual version is quite rare. While this car is in Bangkok and others are in Chonburi and Kanchanaburi, most on this site are in Chiang Mai. Nice price range. Some look both interesting and good value.
No Beetles, though, which is odd. There are more VW Beetles in Chiang Mai than were made in the first place.
A bar just off Loi Kroh has a Porsche 356 Speedster replica hanging from the ceiling. It looks gorgeous in red but the European bar owner is very cagey about it. I think whoever builds these is trying to get one through Land Transport and properly registered before promoting them. The fact that it's been hanging there for 2 years without any promo is not a good sign.......

In Bangkok the best place to go is Rengboon Auto Classics. The workshop/showroom is on Pattanakarn Soi 35 and is always worth a visit as typically there are 20+ classic cars undergoing restoration and 10+ classic cars stored there.  

The owner is Khun Yo, an extremely nice guy who speaks fluent english and is both passionate and knowledgable about classic cars.  He typically has and/or knows of a few cars for sale.  Additionally, he is the best man in the kingdom to talk to if you want a classic car and are prepared to pay the THAI price for same (the cost of classic cars here is certainly well above that in the UK or the US).

I have a 1957 MGA which is 1/2 way through a bare shell body restoration at Rengboon after a full mechanical restoration a few years ago which included amongst other things, a new (restored) engine and new (restored) gearbox from the UK.  What's it worth in Thailand ? (ask Khun Yo)

2dr mk1 escort very original car, plus 1963 mk1 4dr cortina all original bar 3k toyota engine which is due to be replaced with 1300 crossflow.
