But what is he or anybody supposed to do though?
The guy (Kim) is clearly a lunatic and doesn't seem to work logically and reason is certainly not in his vocabulary.
I agree that sanctions don't seem to do much, although that could change if China decide to play ball and actually impose sanctions. Asides from that the only alternative is a pre-emptive attack from S. Korea and her allies, which in itself would be so so wrong in the eyes of many.
Obama and the rest are a bit stuck between a rock and a hard place really. If I had to choose though, I would definitely be in the 'nuke em' camp.

Hi
My mole in MI6 tells me that there is considerable concern in the corridors of power, as the latest intelligence from Pyongyang suggests that Kims bouffant hairstyle is in fact concealing a personal anti missile force field, which could render him safe from any hostile attack. Consequently any punitive action has been put on hold whilst the boys in the skunk works perfect their secret weapon ~~~ Brylcreem Atomic Locating Device ! 'BALD' for short! Sorreeeee....just thought such a depressing subject could do with lightening up a tad! Having read all the posts I could not agree more The Great Leader is in fact The Great Lunatic, however unpredictable he may be he has managed to stay top of the heap for 4 decades, you don't do that without being ultra devious. Proceed with caution. TBWG #28Posted 2009-06-19 01:53:41
Not sure how everyone describes Kim as unpredictable.
He's been playing the same game for 25 years. And the idiot west still believes him when he says, "I promise." I was about 10-years-old when I figured out this type of person. Believe nothing they say. Deal only in the very harshest terms and go for the throat if you must. Don't fiddle around playing their game. Kim's made a mockery of China, Russia, S Korea, Japan and the US. Of course, Europe is too petrified to do anything. Edited by Texpat, 2009-06-19 01:55:19. #29Posted 2009-06-19 15:49:22
Now today I hear Kim has a boat, now in the China Sea, heading for Singapore on the way to who knows where. Maybe Pakistan or Iran they say. Military people say this is a cargo boat suitable for delivering devious goods. The U.S. is watching the boat closely but can't board it to inspect because that would be an act of war. So the pressure is on the Singaporean government to allow an inspection of the vessel once it is in port, this not being an act of war but you can be sure Kim would be insensed. Also reported is Kim plans to launch another test long range satellite near Hawaii in early July probably about Independence Day in the States. Furthermore, there are claims of chemical agents being readily available to Kim to add to his missiles even now before his nuclear capability is ready. This guy is calling everybody's bluff. He knows Obama is no Reagan, who would without a doubt confront and disarm Kim without further delay. Kim doesn't expect military conflict but doesn't worry if it happens. I agree with the others, Obama is between a rock and a hard place. Unfortunately unless Hillary and others can persuade him otherwise, I predict Obama will continue to allow Kim to play this lunatic game. I still maintain Obama wants no diversion or distraction from his all out efforts to pass his new social agenda in the U.S. now while he has the (perhaps only) opportunity to do so. A distraction such as a confrontation with Kim would kill the momentum on his new $1.2T medical reform bill (already fracticious), complete with the national health insurance he is fighting so hard for.

Another possibility is that the U.S.'s missile defense shield is far more advanced and capable than people are aware, and that is why Obama doesn't worry about Kim launching any type of missile toward the U.S.
President Reagan was criticized severely for his "Star Wars" missile defense initiatives, but I always predicted it would save the country's @$$ someday. Edited by Lopburi99, 2009-06-19 16:36:15. #31Posted 2009-06-19 16:42:36
Well I would say how convenient they have 150 Marines on board.
I am sure when they have done stocking up with supplies after the short break in Phuket the fleet will be heading towards NK. You can follow the fleet on the Royal Navy website 4th of July is looking good for the loony to launch his long range missile Hawaii way The Thai Navy were to busy to take part in this exercise? #32Posted 2009-06-19 18:34:45
