Save your modem/router settings Open Control Panel - Network connections - right click on your connection---> properties ---->tcp/ip settings Attention: I do not use opendns change the dns to your preferred dns

Maybe I've been here too long to think this way, but here goes: Next time things seriously heat up in Bangkok and the authorities want to cut communications links, traditionally the radio/TV media, we'll not be able to access the internet as we could in the past. And that got me to thinking, is it possible to circumvent such actions or are we at their mercy?

I haven't faced any of these reported problems so far. The reported providers seem to have a server related DNS/cache problem - thats MHO. Just make sure we don't talk about the mechanics of circumventing the blocks here please. It can quickly turn the site into a target.

Anyone find an answer to this yet? It's been happening to me infrequently since last night. I have Maxnet in Chiang Mai. It's not often, and not tied to one website. O.K. gentlemen. Let's see if we can put some sense in and take some fear out of it. First look at history. Look back. In some last 2500 years all nation-states had it. Call it secret police, informants, spies, spanish inquisition, censorship, lese majeste, national security, state secrets, pornography, blasphemy, heresy, gestapo, kgb, fbi, cia, surete, mi6, or any other name. The sauce or glazing may be different, but the main dish is always the same: A MUZZLE ON YOUR MOUTH. It always was, is and will be there. The means can be different. Ceasar would send you poison or a knife. Chingis Khan nookers would break your back. Spanish/Roman Inquisition would burn you on a stake. Lenin/Stalin/Hitler/Mao would??? do something! These days they close your internet site, restrict access, blackout the names in your postings, put he_l and fcuk instead of your real words. SO WHAT?! Find some real drama in life and concentrate on it... Or did you really think that a publicly open forum accessible to anyone, is ignored by the your caretakers? Maybe you really think that same caretakers can not control such a forum?... Please, be wise, or be smart. Dear Ventura, you can't be both... Do you know the difference between wise and smart men? As to explanation and understanding,- read my post again, try to get its meaning, not picking a word. #61Posted 2009-08-23 07:02:42
Hi,
I have the same problems from yesterdays (MaxNet Premier) but it seems in fact a "glitch" ! Everytime I had the message, I hit "Refresh" and could reach the site ... Maybe the Internet was working too good, it was starting to be indecent ! NB:The first message was displayed as I tried to upload a photograph of my cats ! #62Posted 2009-08-23 10:10:54
I suspect this is simply a case of your ISP screwing up, rather than any deliberate action by the police.
#63Posted 2009-08-23 10:31:08
After so over night checking,i agree......!!!!
#64Posted 2009-08-23 11:39:44
I got it yesterday when I tried to log on to Delta Airline site. I hit the refresh button and everything ok after that.

Some off-topic gibberish deleted. Try to stay on topic please.

The hosting site mentioned does not work for me here in Salaya. eBay works fine though. Are the blocked sites ISP specific? Maybe one ISP blocks a site that another one does not.

I started a topic on this same problem recently at Page serving issues with True
In the end I discovered this has everything to do with TRUE and not something further up the line. I made a variety of requests to them to "release" the domains and they did. My conclusion to this was that TRUE has an "invisible proxy" set up to handle internet queries. I am now considering paying for a "professional" proxy to alleviate my own issues....expensive solution I shouldn't have to take, but I know it will be quicker and less painful than trying to get TRUE to resolve this themselves. For sure I will purchase this proxy from OUTSIDE of Thailand to ensure I get SOME level of technical expertise!! This might not be the solution for all of these problems, but it has worked on the sites I was experiencing these issues for. Good luck all Edited by draftvader, 2009-08-23 13:21:48. #68Posted 2009-08-23 14:46:08
Maxnet premier..
Couple of days ago my normally 2.5Mbit plus international line crawled for a day, then it came back up in speed tests but the latency, pings, and delays 'waiting' started making net use painful. In the last 2 or 3 days I keep getting random "Sorry, the web site you are accessing has been closed by Royal Thai Police due to inappropriateness such as pornography, gambling or contain any information which is deemed to violate national security." popping up on all kinds of sites, forums, google, gmail, etc.. Gmail is especially slow and the pauses with 'working' displayed feel like hangs. I am hearing reports from others with exactly the same issues so can only assume that they are putting in filtering servers which are slow, badly configured, and under strain. A crying shame as my maxnet has been great so far. #69Posted 2009-08-23 14:48:59
Should add, thats with both open DNS and the ISP's DNS configured..
Getting lots of wierdness with link clicks not processing, or being very delayed actions etc etc. #70Posted 2009-08-23 17:56:25
Having the same problem on Maxnet also, some sites not even accessible, forced to connect to my VPN to gain access to them, Also seems international gateways are experiencing problems, speed test in Thailand 1.4mb in UK 0.1 mb

I've been getting the same Royal Thai....bla bla on 'inocent' sites, such as google news and and mail and my first theory is that their spy software has gone kaput and my 2nd theory is that China has taken over the internet here. hope my opinion is within forum rules.........
#72Posted 2009-08-23 22:56:05
Maxnet Premier in CM, same problem for the past week.I even get it on google.co.th sometimes, refreshing fixes the problem. I'm not using maxnet DNS btw.
#73Posted 2009-08-24 08:02:26
Calling Maxnet support this morning! First question of the support.
You can conected to the Internet? Second set was then, as always. Your router is broken. Still the same standard questions like 3 years ago. #74Posted 2009-08-24 09:02:24
Works fine from my DSL ISP with TT&T in Chiang Mai.
Could anyone do me a favour and test this URL from within Thailand and let me know if it is accessible - the domain hasn't been resolving. The IP address works fine though, maybe this is just a problem with 'True ADSL' http://www.mycyberhosting.net It didn't give the police warning but was unreachable, I suspect there is a problem with the True DNS service and somehow there are a whole bunch of domains missing from it, I can't help thinking it's related to some kind of cock up with their censorship system although I could be wrong. I'm not in Thailand at the moment so can't run any more tests myself. This is a website which belongs to a colleague of mine and we have had reports from various people who can't access any of our servers from within Thailand, it's almost as if they have blocked an entire web host for some reason. Edit : It's working fine from England at the moment. #75Posted 2009-08-24 13:54:33
Has anyone experiencing this problem also noticed lately that pages sometimes load but are totally unformatted and just a long vertical column? I think it's the same random blocking occasionally blocking the .css files for a site.
This company is such a joke. I just got another random charge on my bill - 300 baht for "rental fee". They were totally unable to explain what it was for and just said it was for "old service", whatever that means. I asked what exactly was being rented and why this was on my bill 7 months after using their service but she couldn't explain because the computers were down, the identical excuse given the previous month when i when to inquire about a billing problem. |
