Conclusions Preliminary evidence suggests some protection from the 2008-9 trivalent inactivated vaccine against pandemic influenza A/H1N1 2009, particularly severe forms of the disease, diagnosed in a specialty hospital during the influenza epidemic in Mexico City.

This may be good news.  Hopefully the "protein" in the trivalent vaccine that leads to this protective effect can be identified.  This may be critical in developing vaccines for also Avian flu and the flu virus group in general in future.
There were some limitations in the study as admitted by the authors but as the current seasonal flu vaccine is now available and vaccinations are done on a massive scale (all school kids here in Qatar), further epidemiological assessment and analysis over the coming flu season should either prove or invalidate this.
