Hi,

I bought a Garmin Nuvi from ESRI in Bangkok a couple of years ago. Since then, roads have been built/changed etc. Does anyone know:

1) Whether I would be entitled to a map update?
2) What the cost would be?
3) How often ESRI update their maps? I wouldn't want to pay to download the map only to find that it is the same version I already had...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Its changed a few times in the last few years.. about 2 years ago was still the 7 series maps.. Since then I have had 3 8. versions and now the 9's.

Easy to learn how to modify and change them yourself.. And learn where to find them for download.

I am using the 9 version Thailand maps, not tried the SEA 4.5 ones floating about.

For those of you that don't know the difference, version 9 is a ESRI map while SEA 4.5 is a TeleAtlas map.

I bought from ESRI on Sathorn Nua Road the Tailand map, version 9.0 for 4,500 THB.  Looks good and works good.  I use the Garmin GPSmap 60CSx, a very powerful and sophisticated GPS machine with precision of about 3 to 5 meter (depend on what kind of satelite reception you have).

Tracks and waypoint which are recorded by the handheld GPS can be downloaded on Google earth by the attached software Mapsource, included in the GPS.  I only don't know how to enter the recently bought Thailand Map in Mapsource....  I only succeeded in downloading the map on the mini-mini-mini SD-card of the GPS.

The map from the USA is 8,500 THB...

Original ESRI maps are not MapSource compatible, they cannot be loaded on to a computer and used with MapSource. There are hacked versions of ESRI v9, MapSource compatible, available on the internet. There is a TV poster that says he has a copy and is willing to share.

The City Navigator® Southeast Asia NT sells for about $150. Where did you find a map for 8,500 baht?
