I am using Ubuntu 9.04. When I use Thunderbird it insists on using the US date format of Month Day year
but I am used to Day,Month,Year and find the M,D,Y format very irritating!

I know it can be changed but how ? I searched the Thunderbird help file but ended up more confused than ever.

I am relatively new to Ubutu, but I believe the date format follows your Locale settings, so if you are set for British English then the date should be in that format for the OS and all appliactions
See this link on the Ubuntu Forums

System > Administrator > Time and date .Hope this helps. Just like thaimite said change your system settings to Day/Month/Year Thunderbird will change its date format to reflect that . I tried that in windows and it works.

Gee Colin, you had to pick a tough one.

I too ended up in the Ubuntu forums, which is where I usually end up trying to figure out how to do things like this.

I found a more recent thread that directly relates to your problem. See the last post.

Good luck.

Higgy

edit; Actually before you start editing configuration files, what language are you using? Go to System > administration > language support and you have about a dozen different choices for English. If you aren't using Australian
English, check it and see if it changes the way you want.
