Guys,
I've been coming here for years and have yet to find a good barber outside of the salons, the whole experience of which makes my blood run cold. I live soi 8 and have been the guy near the start of the soi, but that was probably in the top 5 worst haircuts i've ever had. Can anybody recommend a decent place in the Lower Suk area where you can get a consistently good chop? I don't care about price I just want somebody that knows what they're doing on farang hair and isn't an idiot to talk to. So far I haven't met anybody who even comes close to that description... Cheers, Tom. #2Posted 2009-11-05 13:53:29

Cheers, Tom. I agree mate, the whole Nana area is overpriced and crappy to boot. I use a place on Soi 19, first one on the left after Robinsons, they get many farang males in there, no bs, good English and 280 Baht with a shampoo. Been going there for years. #3Posted 2009-11-05 14:01:41

James,
Glad to see i'm not the only one who feels like that, i'd got to the point where I was considering buying some clippers and having the maid do it... Vinyl Man, Where exactly in The Plaza is that, I own a bar not far from there so that would be perfect... I must have walked past that a million times and not noticed, i'd been going to one further down soi 22 on the right but it was a bit crappy in there if i'm honest... Cheers, Tom. #5Posted 2009-11-05 16:13:15
The Four Seasons Hotel at the Rajadamri BTS station, has a small barber shop for men only next to the fitness center. It's staffed by three old men with about 120 years combined experience in cutting Farang hair. They don't talk at all, just quietly cut your hair.
It's about 400 baht now I think. #6Posted 2009-11-05 16:17:09
Bottom floor of landmark is quiet good, my dad has been going there for years.. I have been there are few times, its reasonably prices, you get a cut and a massage although I don't know if he just was doing that for me...

The best one I've found was last week, found it on the Thai Visa directory, but the directory doesn't seem to be working at the moment.
Anyway, their site is http://www.andersonsalon.com/ and their English was better than mine, great service, hair wash and cut 500B little more expensive than most on here but believe me its worth it just for the conversation and laughs let alone the good hair cut. #9Posted 2009-11-05 17:49:14
Yep, that looks like a good option as well. Glad I started tis thread now, loads of options!

If Soi 22 is good for you, then check out a place called Man Barber. It is a few blocks past the schools on the left side of the soi going away from Sukhumvit. Haircut is only 100 baht and very good, English is pretty poor but always a good haircut.

Sukhumvit Soi 16 - diagonally across from Foodland - you'll find a barbershop. Owner's name is Peter. He speaks a fair bit of English. THB 150 for a haircut without Shampoo. I don't have much hair remaining, so it isn't like I am putting his skills to the test.

When you say "clean massage" I assume there's nothing else on offer other than the massage...? #17Posted 2009-11-07 02:36:53
I've always been satisfied with my 100b cut from the booth in Sukhumvit MRT. They even use a little vacuum cleaner to suck the bristles off your neck.

Krungthep paeng mahk!!
50B and not a bad job at all in my local village hairdressers. Mind you I miss the gay (in both the ancient and modern senses) Irish banter I got from Paul, my 'stylist' in London. He would take 90 minutes and layer an ageing hairstyle so beautifully that it would last 6 weeks and still look v smart. But he did cost £40 (2,200 baht). If it is really top class haircut then I would not dis someone paying 500B in Thailand - particularly if they are working or serial pulling. #19Posted 2009-11-07 08:49:43
Does that mean I tend to prefer the "dirty" massages????

'Lady there named Khun Tum does a great job. Located at the Queen's Park Plaza beer bar area, on the aisle farthest from Sukhumvit. #21Posted 2009-11-07 17:26:01
