Hi flying - I actually agree with you, it irritates the hel_l out of me too.
There was a book at school that was required reading during the communist era, Animal Farm
http://en.wikipedia....iki/Animal_Farm
Essentially the final line in the book determined peoples true rights, it read something along the lines of:
'Everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others'
My guess for the fall in its popularity today is it actually reflects the UK - Senior civil servants, Ambassadors, MP's etc are for example not taxed in the same way as the general public and their state pensions are cast iron. Pigs - with their snouts in the trough. What we are seeing is a form of civil disobedience, in reaction to this.
The only difference I would consider is putting enough into the account to run paying bills etc for a few months in case of an accident etc. Let the account deal with the boring stuff. My own assets are actually in Thai and UK property, which will give me pause to consider preparing to minimise the UK inheritance tax my estate will attract (guess who is also exempt from this tax!).

Sure Pkrv Animal Farm is famous .......
Also I agree with you it is a form of civil disobedience & one that does not cost blood.
I also keep a account here & leave some cash in it. Just so I can use it for transfers etc. I also have a Thai account to take care of things when Im there.
Balance unbanked or converted to metals.
The attraction to metals is a hedge against what I feel is failing fiat/USD
Have credit cards but carry no balance.
Like you I also have assets in property but I also have credit lines on them with zero balance for near 100% value made when they were loan happy & giving 15 year credit lines with no costs. I feel it affords instant liquidity if needed.
