Apologies if this is already known, but i did a TV search and couldn't find anything.

Got a nice surprise today - the Aquarium is happy to charge the 'Thai entrance fee' to foreigners who can present resident ID such as a work permit or driving licence.

Hey, it's only 100 baht against 50 baht, but it's the principle of 'doing the right thing' that I'm happy with.

Same thing happened to me as well, had my Thai Driving license and also a copy of my workpermit.

Did not enjoy the actual aquarium though, thought the fish deserved bigger tanks, but maybe am used to seeing fish at Siam Ocean World in Bangkok.

Know what you mean, beano2274. I've been fortunate to go to Singapore, Vancouver, and a few in Oz, and they are all superb.

However, for a small place like Phuket, I do think they do a very good job. Every time we go, there's a little something different, some new exhibits, and the 'turtle trail' out the back of the place is always great. Earlier this year, we saw the turtle that had been rescued after capture by fishermen, and the medical team were treating its wounds.

Also had an "adult giggle" during one visit when a team in surgical gloves were extracting sperm from a large turtle, in full view of tourists. Can just imagine a conversation in the bar later, "So what did you do today, then?". "Oh, I just w***ed off this big turtle".

A few attractions in Phuket are excepting Thai Driving license as proof of residence.
For example the Butterfly Farm in Kathu is doing this.
