Officials in Ukraine have closed schools for three weeks, imposed travel restrictions and are limiting public events as the country battles to stop the spread of swine flu.

More than 60 people are believed to have died of respiratory problems in the past week, and the measures are among the toughest to be implemented in Europe to tackle the virus.

It's still not clear whether all the deaths were caused by swine flu, but the news has sparked panic, and people have started wearing masks across the country.

Appeal for calm

The Ukrainian health minister Vasyl Knyazevych has asked the media only to report the comments of medical experts following a series of misleading reports which fuelled public anxiety.

On national television, he said Ukraine had the same problems as the rest of the world.

He also called on fellow politicians to give people 'a week of silence,' and said there was no need for panic.

However, his calls may already be too late.

255,000 cases of flu and acute respiratory problems have been registered among the 46m population. 15,000 have been hospitalised.

The World Health Organisation says there is no evidence to suggest that Ukraine had a bad outbreak of swine flu, but it has agreed to send a team there to help the country cope.

President Viktor Yushchenko has also appealed for international help.

Government response

The government has faced growing criticism of its handling of the outbreak.

Some opposition politicians have been particularly critical of the health minister who they not only want to be sacked, but jailed.

Well, it seems not to be that small anymore and it does spread and fast.  This seems to be NOT a natural virus that's doing all this havoc.

Current serious illnesses in the Ukraine from the mystery illness known as 'Ukrainian Plague' is now approximately 1,300,000 with approximately 70,000 hospitalized in serious to critical condition. There are reports that suggest the total deaths could be as 6,000 or higher.
Doctors in Ukraine's western Chernovetsky region, near the centre of the flu outbreak, said lab tests showed at least some of the fatalties appeared to be caused by a flu dissimilar to both common flu, and swine flu.

The latest numbers out of Ukraine indicate that 1.25 million people have now contracted what is being called "the mystery flu". Over 65,000 of those have required hospitalization and 239 are officially reported to be dead. As the situation in Ukraine continues to become more dire, many health experts continue to be absolutely perplexed as to why the WHO continues to refuse to release the sequences from the samples taken from patients in Ukraine well over a week ago.  Meanwhile, there has been a dramatic spike in flu cases in neighboring countries such as Russia, Belarus and Bulgaria.  In addition, a dramatic increase in flu cases is being reported in Serbia, Norway, India and Canada.  In many of these nations there are reports of the flu virus absolutely disintegrating the lungs of patients just like it is doing in Ukraine.

Ukrainian Professor Viktor Bachinsky recently commented on the behavior of this mystery flu, and his assessment of this virus is very sobering.....

Airplanes sprayed mysterious substance over Ukraine days before pneumonic plague outbreak

Looks like every-one should be wearing masks when they go outside of their homes and stiff fines administered to those who do not .

The problem in much of Asia is , that far too many people cough/sneeze or spit up mucus no matter where they are , with no attempt to cover up or contain all of the germs they are spreading to all and sundry within a 30 foot radius , in a kleenex or similar .Further to this , these micro-organisms attach themselves to walls/clothing/door-handles etc and you carry them home with you on hands/clothing/footwear etc , to pass on the grief to persons with weaker immune systems , such as the eldery/small children and people already suffering with lung problems .

This sounds , that as predicted , the world has started to suffer from a serious PANDEMIC , which it appears to have alredy mutated into something even more serious . Remember that even those countries affected the most at this time , are only an airplane flight or some serious wind factors away , and they could quickly be on our doorstep .

Just a thought.  Is it coincidental that this mutation emerges (or clearly manifests itself) in Ukraine?  Or did we forget where Chernobil is?
As far as I know it, RADIATION <=> MUTATION.  Could this account for WHO keeping the  mutant virus sequence from release?

Ukrainian statistics show that the "Ukrainian virus" is not more virulent or lethal than the regular H1N1. If it is not H1N1, it is probably viral pneumonia.

I searched google news on the subject, and the amount of Buffalo Sh*t written on the subject is impressing. It reaches from satanistic plots to secret russian bio-weapons...
