When's the IPO George?
#29Posted 2009-11-20 13:30:09
yep, good job - kudos!
Still going strong, moderation, keeping it clean, being fair, stick to the guidelines, nothing comes from nothing! #30Posted 2009-11-20 14:35:16
Its strength is in its numbers. 45000 hits a day. More members than any other site.
There is competition of course but because the other sites are smaller they dont have a sufficient number of members to contribute to a full debate. Ask a question on TV and you will get an answer quite quickly. Some may not be helpful but because there will be a lot of replies you can make a judgment and act accordingly. Try that on other sites and you will not get enough replies to form an opinion. You get a broader range of opinions on TV than other sites. And therefore the thread can be more informative - one poster mentioned the postings during the period of the coup and that was a good example. The flaming is a problem but one can often avoid it and not rise to the bait. And there is always the report button. The rather offensive remarks that get posted by some members when someone dies is more than regretable but the mods cant be everywhere. I use other forums and blogs but use TV the most because there is more information here. Some topics come across as biased but that is often because a large number of posters of one particular view are posting while others of a different view feel disinclined to post. That is certainly better than one forum - the one where the poster with the highest number of posts does not even live in Thailand - will delete posts and members who do not toe the party line. TV is certainly not in that category. Views are not surpressed. They are currently running a thread on a foreigner rape and on Chiangmai driving. So few posts on both that there is just not enough material there to form an opinion or join a discussion. Well done George and your team. #31Posted 2009-11-20 14:53:59
Congrats George on a successful and innovative site. Now get off your arse and put in a good day's work.

So what's new ???
Most of us had an accidental start in life. #36Posted 2009-11-21 12:21:25
I'd often wondered about the story of ThaiVisa's beginnings. I love learning about success stories as it inspires me to pursue my own future success story. Well done George and thank you for giving us a unique place on the web.

Personally, I think a better title would have been
"ThaiVisa was an accidental success." But we get the message... #39Posted 2009-11-22 07:04:16
Being a member of a few other forums -- some about Thailand, others about photography -- ThaiVisa is, without question, the best run, so I congratulate George. In general I believe people are treated fairly by the moderators, although on occasion a tad bit of whim is involved in determining which posts are suddenly closed. Okay, I give ThaiVisa only an A-.

Personally, I think a better title would have been "ThaiVisa was an accidental success." But we get the message... I read the title rather quickly and thought it said that Thaivisa "was an accident from the start" ; and wondered why a moderator of all people was making that claim. Then I read the posts and re-read the title; you're right about a better title. Speed reading has its problems. I tried the technique once before venturing into " War and Peace" It's about Russia. But as I said in an earlier post. Well done George. #44Posted 2009-11-24 23:22:31

I think George and the team, are doing a great job. This forum must have one of the broadest range of posts of any forum. I know many have been very helpful to me personally, like wise, I have been able to help a few others on the forum too. I think George deserves all the credit he can get. Well done.
