I lived in Guam from 1997 until last August, with a few years in late 90's Korea. I was there when they hooked Guam up to this cable.

I never noticed any difference in speed. None.

I think the ISP throttled the speed allowed. I think TOT does here.

Seems a heck of a lot faster at my house right now. I'm on 4mb from TRUE.

They must have done something right. CAT highspeed in the sticks east of Phitsanulok and a stable 6.7 MB

Much faster overseas downloading also.

To be positive about this, I hope that slow speed will come to a halt....
You hope the speed will come to a  halt?   Maybe if Guam (one of the transit points) puts a gate valve on the fiber cable coming through their island, and makes a ransom demand of $1,000/minute for opening it up again.  5=5=5=5=5=5=5=

Way out in the sticks of Chiang Rai, I'm getting;
  download speed   1744  kbs  * * * *   upload speed     305 kps

Even if it's not quite 100% operational yet, many thanks to the folks who put the optic cable in and tightened all the screws.

I'm on TTT with 5Mb connection in Chiang Mai. So far so good, but then again, it's 7am in the morning. Anxious to see how things go in the afternoon. I've been having horrible upload problems to servers in the U.S. this week that I'm convinced are a TTT issue. Still having problems.

I don't have any control to benchmark today's speedtest results with, but I should get an idea of whether there has been much of an improvement later on tonight.  It seems noticably quicker than usual this morning.

Speedtest results for this connection at 512/256 came in at 501/268 as an average of a few tests, so I have no complaints.  Thanks for the news and I'll see if things are still as sluggish as they have been over the past couple of weeks by the end of the day.

quick everybody do a speed test to the same website at the same time!

Check your real broadband speed here:
http://speedtest.thaivisa.com

Please paste in the results, and also which ISP and plan you are using, Thanks!

PS! I'm right now on CAT-CDMA (800 Baht/month) and it looks very good:

The new cable has improved things.  Unsupported complaints are now loading 50% faster.

Oh may be this was part of the cause of Monday's internet outrage. CAT did something to the IIG, may be this is it.

Can someone bring a more reliable cable to my neighborhood do my TOT stop dropping off?

it is not because they have more capacity at the source, that they will give their customers more value for money

Please explain how this cable can improve anything for the nominal adsl user.

Currently they have a certain speed connection from the Dslam to the general server.Then they connect 3 times more users then recommended to that Dslam so that everyone get's a crap connection.

Now they have a new international link installed,how will this improve the speed for the users-read everyone in thailand-connected to that overloaded Dslam that will still have the same speedconnection to the general server

Just to have something to compare to, I stay in Norway for christmas at the moment.

My speed here is 6,2 MB download, and 0,5 MB upload.
That is on an average contract, not fast, but not slow either.
I think its pretty much the same most places in Europe.

So I guess the connection in Thailand is still pretty slow.

My 2k download 512 upload still rates 1700 and 430.  Nothing has changed that I can see - especially when True, TOT, et al are still up-selling business on to the higher bandwidth when it shares that with consumers and game players - no sense, no responsibility! :)

Did it one more time, got 11,1 MB down, and 0.8 MB up.
That is at your thaivisa test. So it varies a lot then.

Still, it seems the tests from TOT etc. are way much lower, as always.

As a measure of actual connection speed, adslthailand has been very poor in recent days, prompting many complaints from customers of 2Mbps on their 5/8 Mbps lines. Using this test site, which has several servers in Thailand, shows speeds close to the 5/8 Mbps.   I have not noticed any improvement in speeds on any ISP as yet.

Which kind of DSLAM can be "overloaded"?

Excerpt from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia....ardware_details):
"Each DSLAM has multiple aggregation cards, and each such card can have multiple ports to which the customers lines are connected. Typically a single DSLAM aggregation card has 24 ports, but this number can vary with each manufacturer."

I remember back in the days, when a Siemens DSLAM would only have 4 ports per aggregation card. They were often exchanged due to instability and other problems (I believe they were fried too easy). But how the hel_l you overload a DSLAM is beyond my comprehension.

But basjke, you seem to know an awful lot about the Thai ISPs: which type of DSLAM do they use? And how do the overload them? Or are you simply another drunk farang in LOS, who talk and talk and never really say anything?

Down = 1603 KB/sec
Up = 374 KB/sec
Latency = 88ms

Good speed from my office in Jomtien Beach, but I think we pay about 50,000 baht a month for our dedicated CAT fibre-optic connection :)
