As this guy's blood group is A- he can also be helped with O-, as blood group O can be donated to anyone. Unfortunately I am O+, so couldn't help. But my friend donated O- blood.
So if you are reading this and have O- you can help too.

Are you sure of the whole screening process? Last month we watched on channel 3 a case of a child who got infected with HIV from a blood transfusion. The hospital denied first but after checking her parents and her twin sister who were negative the hospital director confirmed that they couldn't screen all the blood and that many patients have been infected with this and other virus. Since there is no law to protect the patients the only (moral) obligation of the hospital is to treat this young child for free until she passes away.
[/quote] In the west, the hospital assumes legal responsibility if a blood unit screening test is available and they don't perform it, in fact they will not give a unit of blood until it has been screened for viruses. All the blood units in storage have been screened and are waiting for crossmatching as needed. Evidently in LOS they don't view the risk in the same way. With the high percentage of potentially infected blood here, there is NO excuse for putting the patient at risk. You are right, the hospital should assume responsibility for their negligent actions, and revise their policies...but #28Posted 2010-01-27 20:55:47
Are there sure they need A- ???
I remember the last time same story in the media they were asking for the wrong type of blood... #29Posted 2010-01-27 21:17:12
I will go through this thread. There are a number of off-topic comments and it is a serious situation. These will be deleted. Please try to add constructive remarks.
Since the blood type is not common among Thais, I think they are targeting foreigners. The HIV question is serious, however, foreigners are more likely, as a group, to know if they are infected or in a risk group for infection. #30Posted 2010-01-27 21:29:51
Hopefully there will be an update on the situation with the patient in need. In the meantime, a very big thanks to the many people have gone that extra measure and extra mile to help someone in need.

Any luck with this.
There are many Lisu tribe people down at the Phuket OTOP clothing bazarra, and as I understand it, most Lisu ate O- blood, and perfect universal donors. Just one thought since it could save a life. #32Posted 2010-02-03 01:29:26
I have once responded (a few months ago) to such blood donation request which has cosseted me a half a day of my work and the mood to ever doing this again. It was similarly for a request for blood 0- (which is my type) in a Bangkok Hospital on Rama VI road, but presenting me at this hospital after having searched for one hour for a parking space (which I found next to the railway at the backside of the hospital) I was bluntly sent away by rude farang-hating staff saying that they didn't need anything from the farang...
If such requests are made from this website again, and the precise address of the right person to whom we have to present (with telephone number) is not given I will NOT MOVE anymore! This person should also speak ENGLISH! Such kind of appeals are baseless and unproductive without thi vital information. THAIvisa: improve this kind of vital calls for blood donations since they can save a man's life!!! So far you're not the solution, but you're the problem! Understand the people who really want to help! #33Posted 2010-02-03 10:11:47
One bad incident doesn't make this an increase of the problem.
Especially if you are type O-. My wife is and we have gone to give blood before. Most always it is welcome with open arms. #34Posted 2010-02-03 12:52:38
