Two wounded in seven bomb attacks at banks in Narathiwat

NARATHIWAT: -- (TNA) Two civilians were injured in bombings at seven banks in the violence-plagued province of Narathiwat.
In the provincial seat, three bomb explosions were reported while four others occurred in Rangae and Sungai Kolok districts.

A bomb went off in the municipality at an ATM booth at the Krung Thai Bank, wounding Prom Siriporn, 46 a street sweeper.
Two other bombs exploded near the two branches of the Government Savings Bank.

In Rangae district, a fourth bomb occurred at an ATM booth of the Government Savings Bank, wounding a 26-year-old man, identified as Charnwit Uepanyasil. Another bomb was reported at an ATM booth of the Krung Thai Bank but bomb experts destroyed it with a high-pressure water gun.

In Sungai Kolok, two bombs were found at ATM booths of the Krung Thai Bank and the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Co-operatives. Bomb disposal teams defused both of them.
Meanwhile, a roadside bomb was detonated by a remote signal in Bacho district, but no one was wounded in the incident.

After the bombings in Narathiwat early Tuesday, soldiers from a special unit used the GT 200 bomb detectors and signal jammers to screen all banks in Yala municipality. Officials are patrolling the areas although there has been no report of an attack in Yala so far. (TNA)

Hmm, seems banks are a popular target these days. Wonder how this will get linked to Mr. T?

Is it far from the truth? Would you not be a bit more wary if you are using an ATM?

Thailand really does want no tourists...

first mass protest and riot warnings

now bombings where you could lose your life or a limb just to get your money to spend here...

i guess an informed tourist is not looking thailand to come and spend their hollidays here

Its interesting though that only a selected number of banks are being targeted.
Bank of Ayudhya, Siam Commercial and few others have not been touched at all

If this was a post about "tuk-tuk scams" or "bar girl scams" or some other tourist related post I could see your comment but COME ON. We are talking about bank bombings and TOURISTS are probably the last thing on the bombers minds.

Isn't that the point in the bombings, because of the court verdict handed down or is it a conspiracy theory that the other side wants all to think it is because of the decision by the courts....

In respect of your comment, I understand the bombings are related to the outcome of the Taksin case. As serveral Banks are believed to of been sponsors of the Coup in 2006, that threw out Taksin & lead to TRT being disbanded. In my experience with people, we are all one in what ever part of the world we were originally born & Thai
people are No different...Peace.

But personal safety is one of the first things on the mind of a tourist traveling to Asia these days. And there will now be another round of "warnings" from the travel offices about safety in Thailand. The cumulative effect of all of these will make a difference to some tourists I'm sure.
Very sad time for the Land of Smiles I think.

OMG, that's going to help.

Quote from the Thai Asean News,

"A British manufacturer of the controversial GT-200 explosive detectors has refused to accept the result of the test conducted by the Thai government, which claims the equipment is ineffective.

Global Technical, the manufacturer of the GT-200 explosive detectors, has announced through the company's website that it is surprised and disappointed by the Thai government's test result.

Global Technical claims the Thai government's test result conflicts with test results from other international independent bodies and the personal experiences of detector operators around the world.

The company has refused to make further comment on the matter, but said it would like to review the Thai government's testing method.

A reporter from CNN has tried to contact Global Technical and the local distributor, Avia Satcom, but both have refused to give an interview.

The manufacturer claims it has sold its product to more than thirty countries around the world, and the GT-200s are in use in many countries such as the Philippines, Mexico, and Kenya.

Earlier, the British government banned the export of GT-200s, which are also known as AED651.

Also, an executive of the company has been arrested and indicted by the British authority.

The use of GT-200s or the AED651s has also been suspended in Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to an expert, GT-200s have no electronic detection mechanism, and they use technology similar to a dowsing rod, which is used to find water.

The expert added that the most effective thing about the detector is the brain of its operator."

I can't post the URL but just google GT 200
