Security Beefed Up at Siriraj and Nearby Water Ways
BANGKOK: -- The Royal Thai Navy has announced that four companies of security forces, along with metropolitan police, will be stationed at Siriraj Hospital to provide extra security for His Majesty the King, who is now under medical supervision. The Royal Thai Navy has confirmed that four groups of marine security will be deployed to safeguard His Majesty the King, who is currently under medical supervision at Siriraj Hospital. The Navy elaborated that marine forces are ready round-the-clock with troops deployed to Krungthonburi Bridge, Rama 8 Bridge, Phra Pin Klao Bridge, and Saphan Phut or Memorial Bridge. They added that they will join hands with marine police and the Harbour Department to maintain peace for boat commuters. Meanwhile, the National Peace-Keeping Center has banned unauthorized traffic in three areas near the hospital. The restricted areas are 1) Phrannok Street, from Fai Chai Intersection to Phrannok Pier, 2) Arun Amarin Street, from Arun Amarin Bridge to Thon Buri Palace and 3) Itsaraphap Street, from Pho Sam Thon to Thonburi train station. They explained that those whose behavior is deemed a risk to the Kingdom's stability are prohibited from entering the area, and they are calling on the general public to inform authorities of any suspicious activities. ![]() -- Tan Network 2010-03-12

Over 200 red shirts gather in Bang Khen
BANGKOK -- Over 200 red-shirt protesters gathered at the Rebellion Suppression Monument in Bang Khen district at 10:30 am Thursday. They gathered to wait for Veera Musigapong and Weng Tojitrakarn, who are scheduled to lead a march from the monument at noon. Red shirts start marching from North, Northeast
Thousands of red shirts from the North and the Northeast have started their march Friday's morning, expecting to reach Bangkok by Sunday. Those from the North are expected to converge and stay overnight in Nakhon Sawan while those from the Northeast will spend the night at Nakhon Ratchasima. Before departing their respective hometowns, the red shirts organised a series of ceremonies to pay respect to and ask for the blessing of deities revered in their towns. Nation: A govt intelligence source has told us that the numbers of red protesters on the first day have fallen way short of expectation. "They expected thousands at each gathering point, but protest leaders only managed to gather hundreds at each spot," the source said.
Thepthai claims organisers have requested Bt500 million from Thaksin for a five-day campaign, but Thaksin cut it down by half.
