Now I`m sick and tired of incompetemt electric compani in Samui. Today another power- cut.. If they are working to make the elektric-lines better. why dont`t they come out with information to the public. And if the implement are old and unuseful, why do the not changes it to the better. I advice all tourists who are planing to come to Samui.GO SOMEWHERE ELSE,!!!! [/quo And now both the cableTV and True Vision are down. Samui sucks. #52Posted 2011-05-12 23:16:18
apparently they sent a message through cable tv but noone got it because it was down. then they tried to print leaflets but they had a power cut before they finished and the printer stopped working and is now broken due to low electric. Apparatly bangkok has a replace team which a apparently better prepaired for the samui situation. They are there top monkey's from the number 1 zoo in Thailand. i do beleif they are scratching there heads as we speak about to come up with a master plan to save the island. problem is the elctric station have forgotten how to drive so they are stuck in the station stationary until we find a plan as to how to remove the old staff.
No samui elctric station is not a wax musium the people do move from time to time if u watch them carefully ps please re-consider before deleting this post just for the record obviuosly i am typing proper shit as it has been a looooong day. oh well back to work baby is cry whooooshh ! apparently being in this jungle enviroment has the tendacy to turn people into maniacs #53Posted 2011-05-12 23:18:07
funnily enough i used to say to people . " if u don't like it go home" but i have stopped saying it now and people don't say it to me.
i think we have just accpted that fact that errrrrrrrrr means errrrr dribble dribble errrrrrrrrrrrrr think we cannot be bothered to moan about the moaners anymore #54Posted 2011-05-13 08:32:49
Fair enough Carmine, but recently there have been more cuts than seemingly in the last two or three years combined, that's how it feels at least. Yes thats true and as someone else has said on this thread, the authorities are not giving out any info to the public. Everyone is being ept in the dark So what time do you think we'll have our first power cut today? #55Posted 2011-05-13 10:22:32

#57Posted 2011-05-13 12:13:00
Just completed our first power cut of the day. What joy! Can't wait for the next one. Maybe, just for a laugh it can be early evening for maximum disruption and while it still really warm.
The joy of living on a boutique island. #58Posted 2011-05-13 12:18:20

The joy of living on a boutique island. Not the same since Mangrove shut. Sitting outside testing my latest mozzie spray while nibbling on some steak tartare.....heaven! #60Posted 2011-05-13 15:20:41
I heard a rumour one of my friend have a friend at the government office and basically what they said from the 3 underground cables 2 is broken and this will be ongoing for another 1-2year. It has been damaged recently and that caused this daily havoc now. not sure if true....
Anyway seems after every rain the electric going off, so its really time to import some 6V inverters from china and sell it so ppl can use it to make electricity up to 2000W from their bikes, it might be a good idea to invest in it if someone want to sell this things i can provide source and do some business #61Posted 2011-05-13 17:23:20
We have just had another power cut in Plai Laem. Off at 4 pm on at 5.20 pm.
Carmine was right. 3rd world country 1st world prices! #62Posted 2011-05-13 17:29:01

How many are writing on this thread whilst sittining aircon?
Time to buy a generator..... #65Posted 2011-05-14 21:26:54
How many are writing on this thread whilst sittining aircon? Time to buy a generator..... Its an ecological nightmare. Consider how many people had aircon 30 years ago and how many were moaning about that. Maybe folks have become spoiled in recent years. #66Posted 2011-05-14 23:17:16
How many are writing on this thread whilst sittining aircon? Time to buy a generator..... I am up for a poll. Not me, never use it in the house or car. However, I know a few hotels that do. I save a fortune when there is a power cut. I pay over 6 baht per unit. How much do the hotels pay? #67Posted 2011-05-15 10:54:52
We are part of the problem. Overseized air conditioners, overseized pool pumps, halogen lighting instead of CFL or LED, electric heaters instead of heat recovery, no double walls, no insulation. The peak loads that are the main reason for the problems could be easily down by 30 %. But who cares? The Thai Landlord who would have to invest money and loose money on his managment fee? The farang builder who has no idea of this energy issue? The Tessaban? The farang managed restaurant - happy to survive the low season?

Of course we are part of the problem Everyone is, but let's put it into perspective. Me 3 air-con units - run for 1 hour per month for maintenance Pool pump - run for 6 hours per day Lights - normally only 7 low energy bulbs running at any time. (5 outside - 2 inside) When I built my house LED did not exist here Fans - 12 hours per day During a power cut I burn candles. (I have just bought a generator but it is not connected yet. It is for the freezer and water pump) Near me is a 5 * hotel. It has a number in it's name and the rest of the name goes with common. 66 air-con units in private villas PLUS common areas/offices etc. Running 24/7??? 54 pool pumps - running 24/7??? Lights - who the **** knows. I know that there is one heavy duty spotlight pointed at my house 12 hours every night from 6 pm. Huge light pollution from this "environmentally friendly" resort. They even light the street all of the way to the hotel (2 km) During a power cut the resort runs a diesel generator and continue to run everything using fuel (including the street lights). So, let us not blame landlords. Let us look at the poor resorts who 'need' soft loans so that they can continue to take all of the electricity! #69Posted 2011-05-15 13:16:44
Environmental issues aside. Are you sure its a capacity problem? If its 20% oversubscribed then pretty sure every bar, hotel, condo, house could reduce by that amount, Japan managed albeit on a different scale, but if theres no direct information or advertising push it wont happen, just in the dark (no pun intended)

Smokie, do you use aircon when you come over for holidays? I agree its an ecological nightmare but thats down to certain people that did.nt decide to sort this electrical business out five years ago like they should have. #71Posted 2011-05-15 14:55:57

What you say is all very well and most of it true but at the end of the day its largely irrelevent. Why? Because we are a tourist haven. Overpriced with exnoritant flight costs paid to get here and we have a broken down, inferior out dated electric system that cant power the island properly. yet they still want to charge "five star" prices to enjoy our "boutique" island. Word of Samui and the frquency of power cuts will travel like the plague. Its a plain and simple case of the oncoming overload of the system being ignored. I`m sure that there is no capasity problem. At the high season from January until the havy rain started in Mars, there where no power-cut.. Now there are very little tourists at the island and now there are power-cut all the time. I have had one 1 hour ago, but fortunately only for 15 minutes.

Fancy Boutique Resorts or not, you will all see: If Samui goes really green, it will be a top spot again. If not, it will be lost among many others. Now the real rich guys dump their Ferraris for an hybrid BMW, the green race has started. There are many many businesses here with enough funds to join the race. No way to rely on Tessaban or Province government, those guys are still dreaming of nuclear plants and the big part of the cake they might get.
