I agree with what negreanu on unblock-us. Been using the service with 3BB indy 6mb/512k. I mostly stream Netflix with Roku 2 XS. Video quality is depend on the 3BB net capability. The picture is decent on my FullHD LCD tv.
I did notice the 3BB indy package work well on morning 7am till around 5pm afternoon with no stoppages whilst after 5pm the connection tend to get slow and stoppages start occur. But it is still bearable because one 40mins TV Series stop about max 3 times.
I had also setup few provies server VPS myself (total 4, 2 are US VPS IP), but the streaming result is not as good as what unblock-us provided. Their method is using own DNS to "fool" the US site so that anyone around the world can get US/UK specific contents.
Out of topic: Who have Hulu+ account that can share? I am willing to share the monthly fee too. I dont have any US cc to sub in the first place. Thank in advance.
Running on 16MB True ADSL video quality is 4 on netflix on the roku but usually force HD (You know the Roku force netflix HD trick with the remote?)
US credit card go with these guys: USunlocked a full us cc that works with hulu+ etc. etc. and even iTunes which has really thorough country credit card checking been using them for over a year without issue. fund the supplied virtual visa card with your paypal account from any country. Funds arrive on the card 2 days later I just put $500 at a time on it for subscriptions and iTunes purchases.
Hi,
I didnt know the HD trick using remote. Mind sharing that?
About the USunlocked, I did intend to using their cc service. But, their latest updete on their blog stated it is no longer accept by Hulu. What a sad new.
Detail refer to: https://www.usunlock...om/blog/?p=1641
ROKU:
home 5 times
rew 3 times
ff 3times
Didn't realise that the new card has stopped working with hulu plus. I am sure the us unlocked guys will sort it out soon.
I have another option for you in that case if you email jessica at epointsdelivered.com and say you were recommended about visa cards you can pay her with her confirmation say us$120.00 and she will email u a virtual us visa card with value of $100 which is more than enough for hulu plus years subscription.
Thank for the tips. It worked after a few tried. Set it to 2mbps quality. No confident my 3BB indy connection will able to do anything better than 2mbps.
About the Virtual card, I had emailed to jessica. Thank for the info!

Quote I previously did a free trial test with Unblock-us using the DNS settings on my PC...not on my router... And it didn't work well.
Just go through the router method much better i have seen some conflicts with the routers DNS servers and selecting usunbocked DNS servers on the actual device. Not sure whats going on there. (But it was possibly being related although it shouldn't have had an effect of the guy having google dns in his router and us unblocked on his computer) - however he resolved the issue and is happily using unblocked with servers in his router for the last 6 months.
the router method is 100% rock solid and easy to do through the router webpage access as you know.
I am also using Router method. Just set one time and all devices connected will be able to view US/UK contents.

Thanks for the suggestion... I'll try that next time I'm fiddling with Unblock-us....

The disadvantage and of that is the middle-man proxy server still so your going as an example below with distance just as an example:
Netflix (500 miles) Proxy / VPN server (500 miles) Browser / Home device
total 1000miles
Where as with us unblocked.com
Netflix (500 miles) Browser / Home Device
total 500miles
The implications of this with regard to streaming content is an incredible difference in picture quality, streaming rates.
Also with unknown factor of proxy/vpn connection server speed and congestion. It is better to remove that middle man server totally if you can.
The way I understand it unblock-us DNS servers essentially just points everything (or at least "selected websites") to their proxy server, so in effect it's no different from using something like "proxy switchy" (Chrome plugin) with a standard proxy server. Of course they have a good thing going and just refer to "proprietary technology" but sites such as http://www.quora.com...ck-us-com-works seems to confirm it's just another way to setup a proxy server.

its not a proxy service. if it was that simple they would offer all providers in that specific country for example the 4od and channel 5 service is not supported - if it was a simple proxy with a uk ip then of course it would be supported there is no reason not too.
As far as I can tell the unblock US server routes for example the country/IP section of the netflix authentication at the beginning of each stream to their server and once this has been authenticated the stream is sent direct.
The only rerouting of occurs of ip authentication the stream is direct.

I don't know how Unblock-us works technically, other than how the user sets it up on their router or PC by using Unblock's own DNS settings..
However, regarding Negreanu's comment above, I've encountered two different types of streaming providers.... as follows..
There are some...that once the initial IP authentication has been made, will continue to play and operate even if the proxy or VPN drops out sometime during that initial use, even if its replaced midstream by a non U.S. connection...
But then there are others.... Hulu for one comes to mind...that pretty much will stop almost immediately if the connection changes from a U.S. one to a non-U.S. one mid-stream...because of a proxy or VPN disconnect...
So I'm not sure how that latter situation fits with the way Negreanu is describing Unblock's handling as only dealing with the initial IP authentication.

As Witopia has been mentioned in this thread I thought I would take a look at what they offer , on the following PROS and CONS list , I am wondering about the part shown in red
Witopia VPN PROS:
30 Day money back guarantee
Large server network in 17 countries
Unlimited Switching
Witopia VPN CONS:
Fair support
Could use off shore servers in the Americas
Software standard OpenVPN with NO features and user un-friendly & inconvenient
No automation on start up
No automatic choice of fastest server (lowest latency)
Dynamic IPs and Static IPs not available
Does not protect your originating IP if the internet connection fails. All your applications will be switched to your local IP and you may not know it an OpenVPN problem that is fixed by the better VPN services.
Does not support IPv6
Logs and stores personal information typical US based privacy policy which is not that private or secure
Management and server network is predominantly located in USA
Any one care to comment about the PROS and CONS list and especially the red part , or offer a better alternative VPN ?
Thanks

And it is based in the US. Therefore, subject to the usual unPatriot Act of search and seizures without warrants. I would use a European based vpn service. Not airtight secure, but better than the ΄merkins.

It seems that the same problem of a VPN subscriber loosing their secure internet connection and not knowing they have been automatically reverted back to their normal internet connection and local IP , could be common problem with many VPN providers.
I asked Witopia about this , and here's their reply ...
Does not protect your originating IP if the internet connection fails. All your applications will be switched to your local IP and you may not know it an OpenVPN problem that is fixed by the better VPN services.
This is a tricky question. Let me ask you this, would you prefer your vpn program took over control of your commputer and did not allow it to pass any data unless it sensed and approved the connection? This would seem to be more of a security risk then a helper. Also, what happens when your firewall or security program updates and the software in the vpn does not play nice with it? What happens when windows makes a routing error and misreports to the software the connected status? How would it then know to stop or start the internet connection? We have talked about modifying the program to support this, but for the most part our clients do not want this so we have not added it. We offer a visual representation of connected or not.
So are they saying if your VPN connection drops , you see a visual indicator to tell you , and you are not automatically
re connected to your normal local internet IP to continue the connection .

They use OPENVPN... so if there is no vpn connection, it turns red anyway. Green for on. There should be notification of some sort popping up on the screen.

I read on unblock us website that service cannot be used with True ISP?
I set everything up on my iMac and got a different version of the bbc website than usual but still couldn't 'watch live.
I ran the bbc website on my macbook at the same time and the versions were different.
anyone else tried watching the bbc via true on us unblock?

Very late response on this but I tried unblockus with my True 16Mbps connection. It worked for a a day or so but then, I was unable to log on to BBC iPlayer without the "not available in your country" message. I asked Unblockus support and they told me that the service would only work with an IP beginning with 58.XX.XX. This was their reply:
The problem is that your provider ("True") has some kind of selective transparent proxy or DNS hijacking for some IP's and don't have it for others.
Last week your IP was 58.* and everything was working, but it stopped working once you've got 115.*.
You can try to reset your router few times and check if you can get 58.* back, but this is not a solution. Unfortunately we can't suggest any real solutions for your provider, but you can check with them and see if it's possible to get static IP (it was a solution in New Zealand)
Since then, I signed up for a StrongVPN Open SSL account but, for the UK, it's awful. Stuttering on almost everything I try to watch. The BBC diagnostics page says my download speed is 13Mbps but streaming is another matter altogether. Really inconsistent stream speeds so I'm using the 7 day cancellation later on today.
According to the connection log, the connection to the UK seems to go through San Francisco. Maybe my assumptions are wrong but that seems rather daft given it's a trip of over 10,000km. Feel free to correct me !

I use identitycloaker with excellent results.
Think you can try it free too
