Carphone Warehouse quoted me a price of 500 GBP for their Galaxy S2 - unlocked (but not in stock)
O2 quoted their price as 399 GBP - locked but also not in stock in the store I checked.

I bought the S2 on 6th June from MBK. Think they had just got them. Manual was in Swedish I think but downloaded the English Manual from the website
Paid 23k for it but I've been waiting so long for this I just could not resist as I am a huge gadget freak
So I have gone from iphone 3GS to Android and so far am not missing ios (I still have my ipad for the ios apps and games)
After a weeks use I have to say it is by far the best phone I've ever had. I got a 32gb micro-SD card for it yesterday and have been filling it with apps, MP3 and cartoons for the kids
Everything you have read about this phone is true and I love being free from itunes
"back-up" apps are readily available from many sites and easily installable with no need to jailbreak ala iphone
Sygic GPS map of Bangkok is amazing and the augmented reality Bangkok app is great to show the features of the phone - just select what you want to show (pubs, tourist sites etc) and turn the camera on and the GPS of where all the places are appear on the camera with distance)

Definitely jealous you have the phone in hand already. I was tempted, too. Lowest price I found at MBK was 21,900. But after my experience with my current HTC phone, which was also an import, it turns out I have to send it to Hong Kong for service, which is a hassle. So in the end, decided to wait for the Thailand release.
Does anyone have any updated info? Still supposed to be the 10th of July?

Local chatter has the first SGS2 units, those pre-subscribed, being on hand ~ 8 July 2554 "onwards", so yes it will be for sale at this show. And perhaps no, you will not be able to take it home. Maybe you'll just leave a ~ 5,000 baht deposit?
The SGT 10.1 has the same 8 June availability.

Am I the only one that finds it a bit strange that the Galaxy S2 is priced so much cheaper in Thailand than other markets? Rumors are going around that Samsung will launch a lower priced i9103 model with a Super Clear LCD (instead of Super Amoled +) and Tegra 2 processor (instead of Exynos). Could that be what they're launching here? I, for one, am mostly hooked on the Galaxy s2 because of the great screen, so that would be a deal-breaker for me, I'd have to settle for an import model. Any thoughts?

I was at the mall today so i decided to pop into jaymart and the samsung store and ask about the phone, both stores are asking for a 1000 baht deposit and then you can pick up the phone July 12. The samsung store is also giving away a free Paul Smith hat if you reserve the phone. Both stores are offering two different models one for 850 and one for 900. I tried to get them to give me the model numbers but they didnt know. Both have a 1 year warranty and both are priced at 18,900. Also they said they will only be taking reservations next week at the mall bangkapi mobile expo. This sort of frustrates me because im really curious if the phones are the same model but the software is limiting which frequency they operate on or if they are two separate models which lack the quad band radios. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Maybe Ian B could comment on his (admittedly gray-market imported) hardware?
You can determine the model number, typically located under the battery, and on the outside of the box. Also note the FCC ID, and then Google that.
The Tegra/Exynos CPUs seem equivalent; nice problem to have...Samsung products very popular.
Not sure what to say about the i9103, that does appear to have a Super LCD screen, versus the Super AMOLED + in the i9100 (SGS2).
And not sure what to say about the 3G frequencies. Unless you are on AIS (Chiang Mai, and other select areas) just get the 850/1900/2100 version.
There are 23 different Galaxy S (+variants) baseband software modems. I'm still not sure what the hardware differences, if any might be.
I think we'll have to wait a few more weeks to see what units actually roll out here.
These are the currently identified, shipping baseband modems:

the FCC ID on my S2 is AL3LGT1900
Still think it is best phone I have ever had

On at least some of the SGS2 units they are using the Intel (Infineon) XMM 6260 baseband IC, specifically the Intel® X-Gold™ 626, which has a penta-band 3G/quad-band EDGE capability. However I'm not sure what that translates into in usable frequencies? The Samsung Galaxy S had the Infineon (Intel has subsequently purchased some of Infineon's product lines) BGA735 baseband modem, which was "tri-band" (2100, 1900/1800/2100, 800/900 MHz), but not re-progammable AFAIK.

Samsung Thailand confirmed yesterday that the Galaxy S2 would be available throughout Thailand on July 15th.

i went to central plaza today here in chiangrai just to sneak peek again at samsung store if the have a sample model of SGS2 but unfortunately they don't have any...so i asked the sales lady in charged about the exact date when its coming to chiang rai...its on july 14 and they need reservation for B1,000.00....due to curiosity i asked why the price is quite cheaper compared to other countries...the new rumors goes like this: they removed one app in SGS2 for Thailand unit only...and the rest are all the same...that was according to the sales lady in-charge... and i really don't know exactly what specific app.
and if anyone knows what the exact thing they removed to make the price cheaper plz...inform us...tnx

I think it may have been the phone app http://www.thaivisa....sung-galaxy-s2/ haha
Posted 2011-07-04 21:17:08
Perhaps they removed the NFC Payment ability?
My S2 will not allow me to buy any music and it comes up with "not supported in your country"
Also the Google Navigation app also comes up with "not supported in your country" so I just installed Sygic works great and the Bangkok map is great
Posted 2011-07-04 21:25:29
Didn't you buy a grey-market imported unit from Sweden?
Not sure about NFC apps. Not even sure if any have been implemented?
Which music site(s) are you using?
Google Navigation is limited to certain countries by Google, like the U.S., for now. But it can be hacked; I am running it here in Thailand. Link.
Not sure any of these are somehow SGS2 'limitations', even if mentioned by a saleslady in Chiang Rai.
Maybe best to wait and see what the localized SGS2 looks like before addressing rumors?

might be better to wait on the release date to clear things up...

Here's some unboxing photos of someone who got one of the Thai versions of Samsung Galaxy S2 in their hands. Website's in Thai, but google translate gives a rough idea that they're saying it's being released this coming Friday?? Also, the model number printed on the manual is i9100 (not 9103 or 9100t), so that's good news. I don't see how it could not be a quad band phone as all advertising lists it has quad band gsm and 3g.

Any idea what the GH99-94544W is above the model number?

Just put a 1000 baht deposit for the galaxy s2 at jaymart. Dtac model. Delivery on this coming Tuesday. Seems like they are the only dealer with a fixed delivery date. Oddly, the Samsung shop at Paragon won't get their stock until mid August. Will let you know more when I get the phone.
Posted 2011-07-08 09:19:45
Will look forward to your next post mid August.
Because a shop put up a fixed date, doesn't mean that they gonna deliver at that date here in Thailand.I think the Samsung shop will provide a good parameter as to what date the phone will actually be available.

Evidently the SGS2 is available NOW at Tesco Lotus Rama 4... sales slip looks authentic to me. Many people joke about Tesco having the SGS2 but not any mobile shops, including Samsung.
